I have no return on my blinkers. Can you tell from the pics if I am missing something? Found that little nylon gizmo in a box with the car. Does it go in there somewhere. Also wondering if that copper spring loaded pin is what blows the horn or is it just the ground? I have removed the circular plates just behind the steering wheel.o No: Edit: Added pic of wheel and plates. Believe am missing something behind plates to do the canceling. Also no way for center cap to compress and make horn contact with current hub arrangement. o No:
was there a plastic disc with a couple bumps on the side and a ring of copper on the back just below the metal ring that locks the wheel? it is the cam that hits the springs as you turn and cancels the turn signals. it also has the horn contact on it. the gear looking thing in the picture is what pulls the lock pin back when you turn on the ignition it is suppose to be below the turn signal switch.someone must have left it out. did the wheel lock when you shut off the igniton? post a picture of all the parts you removed to get to where you are in the pic
Thanks for the help. I might be missing that plastic disc, will check again. Had two larger discs, the slotted one that engages the steering lock pin, which does work. On top that slotted one is another one with three holes that mounts to the lock disc. By the way it is a sport wheel so it might have been short cutted when installed. There is another ring that attaches to the steering wheel itself that the center / horn cap snaps onto. Will take some more pics this evening.:TU:
if the lock pin does work , then the gear thing may be a spare, the plastic cancel cam should have been directly below the lock ring. it may be different between a regular wheel and a sport wheel and maybe whoever put the sport wheel on did not have oneo No:
Added pics, as you suggested I am missing the cancel cam under the locking plate. Anybody got one, I see them listed in OPG catalog if I can't find elsewhere. Could try local auto parts places but doubtful they would have a little item like this. May just put it back together until I get one. Need to do some painting on the hub and around the ignition area anyway.
On my 64 riv there is a rolled pin that sticks down from the back side of the steering wheel that trips the canceling ring to turn the turn signals off. Do you have that rolled pin on the back side of the steering wheel??? cant tell from the pic. When the steering wheel is turned the rolled pin makes a circle and contacts the ends of the plastic piece that is fastened to the steering column.
Nope, nothing like that. I'm supposed to have a nylon disc thingy with a couple of tabs that rub those pig tail springs. Probably broke originally and didn't get put back in when the sport wheel was added. So I'll find one eventually. Now I'm the typical geezer going down the road with my left blinker on all the time.
I resemble that remark..... I put up with non cancellation for a year and then when I couldnt stand it any longer , with heaps of dread upon my sholders, I finally pulled the steering wheel and within 20 min. I had it fixed.
yep, your missing the cancel cam! get that , put it in and your horn problems will be solved too. just make sure you have the contact thing that goes into the cancel cam
I also don't have one of these horn contact pins that drops into the unthreaded larger hole in the hub. This ebay item lists it for up to 71 Skylark, but think I need it too and will work for 72. The copper spring loaded pin is there under the plates. It shows up on my pic to the right of center. Does this ebay item look like it is what I need? I will order the cancel cam for sure. Hope OPG catalog is right. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/64-6...ryZ34206QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
