I am looking for the stearing shaft that goes between the colum and the box for a 72 455 car it has a splined end and a bolt through it . Thanks Dave
Dave, Sorry to hijack the thread. Mike, The small block cars have a stamped steel flange that was pressed on to the shaft. The big block cars had a cast iron/steel flange that was bolted to a seperate intermediate rod. Some of the different make big block cars had clearance problems, and the only way to remove the steering column easily was by taking it apart at the flange, so GM made them removable. Big Block steering column assemblies also carry different part numbers, for the same reason. The big block column pieces are hard to find, the small block pieces are everywhere. Duane
Probably a lot, Many times people add tilt columns to BB cars and stick the entire small block column in. That's one way I catch them. Duane
Carl, Here is an article I wrote on this subject, thanks to Duane for more helpful info: http://www.buickperformance.com/BBBshaft.htm
George, That's the ticket, but you'll probably make Mike cry when he sees the picture. He probably used them for tent stakes or something like that. Duane
