Hello This is my 1st post let me start off by saying hello. I have a 1970 GS with a 455 and want to build a pump gas engine that will put the car into the 11s. any help would be great Thanks Mike
The easy way is to send the car to one of the shops that are regularly on this forum and apply money If that option is not feasable I think most of us will agree that you need to develop a plan for the steps needed to take you there. Evaluate where you car is now and what is needed to get the right COMBINATION (yes that is shouting.) Look through the threads here and you will get great ideas and learn a lot. When you think you have an idea fly the specifics here and you will get lots of opinions:Smarty: some of then even right (most of them actually.)
Ok how about who would be the best engine builder to build a serious high power buick engine that I don't need to put 114 octane gas in. I have race cars but I want to make this buick GS be insane street car. There is just not much info on who builds stout pump gas buicks out there. Thanks for the fast reply. This will be 1 hell of a car as it sits right now it is completly original. Anyway any help would be appreciated. Thanks Mike PS Here is a photo of the race cars and check out my website if you get board lol Reynolds & Young Racing
You could bolt a ATI charger on it :Brow: http://xsperformance.com There are 4 or 5 buick builders that would do a GREAT job on your motor. Depending where you are would depend on wich one I went with.
Having seen it for myself, I'd say copy what Rick Henderson did if you want it to be driven too! 11.69 with a 5100 rpm shift point!!! 3.73's 3000 stall TH400 Full weight including rallye wheels.
Welcome Mike..... You shouldn't have any problems getting a pump gas 455" into the 11's. My totally streetable (and HEAVY @ 4100 lbs) '69 GS Convert. runs low 12's all day and cruises the highways regularly on weekends / vacations. Thats without slicks and 1.9 60' times......3.08 gears too There's no magic tricks either, just a well developed plan centered around a really good flowing set of heads.....and a good machine shop that knows how to set up a BUICK properly - There IS a difference !!!! The newly offered TA aluminim Stage1 heads are an EXCELLENT place to start your biuldup - out of the box they flow better than my highly modified Stage1 Irons do. If $$$ is a concern and you have some time, good Irons are turning up as guys switch over to the Soda Can heads. Take a look at www.Trishiedlperf.com - and spend a while looking over the engine build-ups. Howz 500+ hp on pump gas and iron intake and exhaust manifolds sound ??? thats a relatively mild goal with a fresh 455" engine buildup
Welcome also Mike, What you mentioned was my goal when I started a few years ago. I talked to someone that knows Buick engines, Dave Knutsen. As mentioned, a good combination is important. That is how Dave started our conversation. How fast do you want to go? Do you want to street drive the car with a few trips down the track? Etc. Part of my combo is a great set of heads that were ported by Greg Gessler. They flow well. My car runs on 87 octane mostly. I put 92 when I race it at the track, but it seems to run the same. I have around 9.2:1 compression too! Race gas makes me slow down. A lot of it depends on your budget. When you get into the 11's you will have to put in roll bars, special fire jacket, etc. Ask a lot of questions too.
Hello again Alan the link to www.Trisheidlperf.com is not working could it be a typo or is thi site down? Again guys you are a great help thanks for the replys Mike
I got mine into the 11's, and I weigh about 4250 lbs. with me in it. I drive mine every chance I get and can fill up at any gas station that has 93-94 octane gas. Phil
www.paeenterprises.com is also a good plce to look. http://www.postonbuick.com/ http://www.taperformance.com/
