Its the worst spot of rust on the car. What would be the best way to fix it? I do not want to use bondo. Im thinking cut out the bad areas and re-build it with sheetmetal. Fibreglass? The rust doesnt go past the stainless trim on either side from what I can see. Should I just up and replace the whole trunk lid for a rust-free lid?
Depends on how much money you are willing to spend, how much time, and if you care what you trunk lid looks like afterwards. Personally I would try to find a trunklid, it should be relatively easy since your in Texas. Also I think getting the new metal to fit just as good as the original would be hard. (lining it up, not crushing weatherstriping but not touching it) etc. Goodluck :TU:
I would probably replace it. But id also stop that one form rusting and put it away or sell it to someone who can fix it or wants to. Part like that will sell like NOS parts in 20 years.
In the long run it would be much cheaper and easier to just get a new one. The car I scrapped last week had a solid one, but it was crunched beyond repair....... You live in Texas......I can't believe you can't find one. Have you tried wheatbelt antique auto? I think they're in Oklahoma.....I've dealt with them in the past and they are fair and he's a Riv parts specialist. I got my mirror from him about 10 years ago, it was a nice piece. (until I hit that deer......long story :ball: )I can prolly find the phone number if you want it. :bglasses:
