Bellhousing possibilities

Im converting my 71 Riv to MT. I have the opportunity to buy a 9774035 bellhousing that fits midsize 64-67 Buicks, standard transmission, all smallblocks. It has a single cutout/bumpout on the RH side for starter location and no inspection cover opening at bottom. This is what I want because Im going to use an externally-mounted hydraulic slave cylinder on the LH side for clutch fork actuation (mounted off bellhousing mounting flange). The stock BBB bellhousing is 9785581 with LH and RH starter cutouts/bumpouts. The LH bumpout may get in the way of the slave cylinder to clutch fork path. Im questioning if I can use the 9774035 on the 455 due to insufficient clearance of flywheel and 11 inch clutch. Any ideas/experiences on this? Im attaching inside views of both bells. The 9785581 does look deeper from the bottom edge of the center hole to the inside of its base. Lastly, would a BW ST-10 trans bolt up to the 9774035?

  2. i have been told an 11" clutch wont clear the earlier bellhousings. I have both styles and will be test fitting on my 455 soon. Bob

I'm also going to use the old style bellhousing with hopefully the 11" clutch. I sat it down inside and it looks like it will clear just fine. I'll find out in a couple weeks.

It's tight but it fits. Everything will work just fine. The 11" clutch clears everything good.

Older Jeeps that came with the Buick 350 had a bellhousing that housed a factory 11" clutch.
