Need help to identify what manual transmission could have been behind this Nailhead bellhousing...?

Ignore the little piston and rod hanging out of it...I rescued this from a pile a scrapper was getting rid of.

Most likely a BW T-10 or a 3 speed toploader.

Thanks...I've got a bunch of Muncie cases laying around, tomorrow I'll fit one up to see.

It has the cross shaft for the clutch fork, it's a later one, 64-66.
If it's full round on the bottom, it's for a Skylark GS, 65-6. If it's cut open on the bottom (270* round) it's for the big car series.
The exhaust manifold looks like Skylark GS.... it's worth saving too.

Any chance there are more linkage parts nearby? I know Loren, la 65 gs is looking for the clutch adjusting rod. Its a fork on both ends with threads on one side and a locknut. In case you wanted to sell.

    Hi,

A Muncie will work on that bell housing only issue is the O.D. of the bearing retainer is larger than the G.S. throwout bearing I.D.

Other differences from a T-10 with the GS tail Housing which has 2 shifter mounting positions vs the Muncie which only has 1.

I have a Autogear (newer version of a Muncie) in my Skylark and the shifter is in a different position than a stock GS but I got use to it.

Good find, linkage parts are hard to find the adjuster isn't hard to fabricate something that works but one that looks stock may take a bit most of the one's U have found were modified with a die grinder.

    Regards,
    Jim

Nice that you have both exhaust manifolds! They are 65-66 Skylark GS, as is the bellhousing.
    The block isn't a '66 so I'd guess it's all from a '65 GS.

Thanks so much for the info wkillgs...I researched my parts last night, but couldn't find much on the exhaust manifold casting #'s. I found a couple sets that matched mine for sale. They said they had come off of a 65-66 Skylark. Looks like from your sig, you have an amazing collection of COOL Buicks!!

You beat me to it. I don't know squat about the bellhousing, but going by the manifold, it has to be a GS. Those GS exhaust manifolds are few and far between, I would be every bit as interested in the manifold as the bellhousing. The Buchev has one on the right side, and I don't have a spare.
I do have a spare for the left side.

OK, I'll bite: How do you tell a '65 block from a '66?

    Hi,

66 has a cast chain loop on the bellhousing area and one on the water manifold casting

I didn't know about the bellhousing loop. I also didn't know that the water manifold loop was '66 only.

    Hi again,

    Here is a 66 425 I picked up a few years ago:

Kinda looks like the 425 that's in the Buchev now when it found me. Mine didn't have the Aluminum covers, but it did have the Quadrajet manifold.
