Well, this story happened before I bought a 70 Buick skylark. I was driving a 68' Dodge Polara 318. I thought I was pretty bad. I had been Driving behind this huge buick for about 20 miles.. I was getting tired of the view. I kicked the 318 down and shot passed the Huge buick which was being driven by an elderly woman. I passed her going about 100.. She smiled at me as she dissapeared in the distance. about 10 minutes later, I looked in the rearview mirror and saw the car was slowly getting closer. I swear to god, within a split second, I saw and blur of brown, and just like that I couldn't see her ahead of me. At the next town, she was out of her car and filling the gas when I got there... It turns out it was a Buick Rivieara mostlikely sporting a 455 bigblck.. From that Day on, Buicks all the way.

    69GS400s ...my own amusement ride!

I had a '69 Sky in 1981 - I was a poor college kid and I paid a whopping $100 for the Sky. It had the straight 6 250 chevy engine and a 2 speed powerglide tranny. My neighbor across the street was a mechanic and we became friends. His ride was a '73 Buick Estate Wagon with the stock 455 and over 300,000 miles !! It hauled booty too !!

One day, a friend of his with a '71 BoatTail Rivi was over his house, and I came out and saw the car - I knew what they were as my highschool girl's father had one, but I had no clue as to its power. Anyway, this guy had done some work to his Rivi and offered to take me for a ride.

I was never before so scared AND excited both at the same time. This guy could drive too....and had that Rivi drifting with the back tires roasting for hundreds of feet and then we'd ROCKET OFF.

From that day on, I knew I NEEDED a BigBlockBuick

The first fast American car I was exposed to was when my dad bought my oldest brother a 67 Olds Delmont 88 with a stock 425ci Rocket engine and 2bbl carb in somewhere around 1989-90. My brother was leaving the next day for his first Air Force assignment, so my mom and dad took me for a ride in it. We were going about 30mph and my dad told my mom to punch it, so she did and it downshifted and started incinerating the tires. I was so excited about that car, but never saw it again. Instead, my brother came back home with a 1970 350 Skylark that I fell in love with, but our parents sold it! Next was when my other brother got his license our dad bought us a 68 Riviera w/430. Within the first week of owning it my bro decided to show off to a 69 Nova when we were turning onto a 4 lane road from a stop sign. We did one hard fishtail left, one hard one right, one left again even bigger, and back to the right straight towards the curb. He slammed on the brakes finally and we came about 4 inches from hitting the curb so no more punching it around corners happened from then on out.

my rice friends love to go up to other rice boys and ask if they wanna race a buick and then they laugh and wanna put some money on it. for some reason they like to back out after seeing my car it is too funny. But one wanted to play did not know about his 150 shot on a twin turbo 3000 Gt, o well he should have gotten a bigger shot because his did not work for him. My car is bone stock except exhust.

When I bring my Riv to the import dominated car shows on LI, my friend (also into imports) loves to pick fights with the import guys for me. Im leaning against my car and there goes my friend wading through the sea of imports making bets that my car would smoke anything in the lot. Except for the uh Nissan Skyline. I wont touch that with a 10 foot pole.

it was funny last night this kid was talking so much trash about my car then he went and said he would race me for 75$ now i was like score more money for me. I told him i will go get more car from the other parking lot and when i came back he was like oh i thought it was a diffrent car then that i am not gonna race for money now. Now that is all i wanted the kid to know that BUICK'S ARE FAST.

    GS464 Hopelessly Addicted

Not a kill but in the same spirit as most of the posts in this thread. I was young and dumb back in 1976 and managed to talk my dad into co-signing for a 68 Riv GS. What I really wanted was the gold with a vinyl top 1970 Stage 1 sitting on the same lot but all I got from the old man was NONONONONONONONONONO the second he heard it start and idle!. He was lots smarter than I gave him credit for then. :Brow:

Anyway, he and the sales guy talked me into taking this huge tuna boat of a Riviera for a ride to test drive it. I had no idea what a Riviera GS was, how fast they were or what BBB power was all about. Man. Opened these 17 year old eyes quite a bit. Had to have it. Fire engine red, black vinyl top, black interior with the buckets and consol, factory 8-track tape deck, rear defogger, duals, posi, A/C, power windows AM/FM and a few other things. So we financed the $1250 purchase price (kinda makes you want to cry now doesn't it?) and I had my prize.

A buddy (at the time a record holding class drag racer) was tuning the car while I was working and when he lit out of the parking lot he dang near came right into the next driveway. He hit the gas and turned the wheels, instantly launching the rear of the car more than 90 degrees. When he finally got control of it and stopped, he was just sitting still, in the middle of State College Blvd in Orange CA for about ten seconds with the funniest look on his face.

Made a Buick Believer out of him! :jd: :eek2: :3gears:  :Do No:
