With an edlebrok B4B and a q jet , does an open base gasget work better than a 4 hole gasget, since your divided intake becomes less divided when u use an open type gasget

If the intake is fully divided, not 4 hole like a factory intake, a 4 hole gasket leaves a lot of unsupported material in the plenum areas which can rot and possibly shed material into the intake system. I've done a LOT of testing with intakes, spacers, and gaskets. Best results have been leaving the material intact between the primaries and removing a small amount of material between the secondaries so that one side sees the other side. Some folks grind on the divider under the secondaries, and some intakes were actually made with material removed in that area. I would NOT remove a lot of material from the divider however, as with some set-ups in can induce stumble/hesitation/bog that can be difficult if not impossible to tune out......Cliff

I guess you can trim a 4 hole of all the unsupported area and leave the middle, have you done that on an B4B edlebrok ? I removed on my last B4B about a half inch down , and leaving a half inch on front and rear of divider. I didn't notice anything other than with the air cleaner off it sounded different .

You're probably not going to notice much if testing by sound or "the seat of your pants".

I test with the dyno and drag strip, so we can post useable and accurate information about these things. Of course we do street testing as well, but for cutting intake dividers, gaskets, testing spacers, etc, any "butt meter" testing is highly flawed and often not very useful.....IMHO.

As for trimming gaskets, a pair of tin snips turns any 4 hole gasket into open, 3 hole, or fully divided in seconds, or you can make it fit most any intake exactly without a lot of unwanted material hanging into the plenum areas.

My personal favorite gasket these days is our 1/4" thick fully open gasket, great insulator, non stick surface, and it allows both sides of a fully divided dual plane intake to see other without cutting down the divider any.......Cliff

Tks Cliff, I'm leaning not to molest my divider this time

I've had to notch the ends on quite a few intakes and make a divider for them when folks ground it down to far or removed it completely. Doing this can quickly cause tuning issues, and hesitation/stumble/bog when getting quickly into the secondaries........Cliff

That's what I installed about 20 years ago (the open, phenolic [plywood resin thing] from Moroso - might be 1/2 inch thick) on a stock 1970 intake and I've found it works great. Required nothing more than an extra gasket and a longer bolt. Choke, fuel line, throttle cable required basically nothing.

I've been runin 2 open thick gasgets with an aluminum heat shield in between , on ported stg 2 valve irons, now with TA stg2 SE heads should I remove a little of divider on a B4B?

No, leave the divider intact, you have PLENTY of open area (probably too much) between both plenum areas already.........Cliff

Tks Cliff , this just proves I will never know half as much as I don't know.:Do No::Do No:
