Okay, everyone remembers the post where I said the kickdown cable was having problems? It ain't kicking down, what it is doing sounds to be the bands slipping. While driving after the car is warmed up, it feels like it is kicking down but if you keep on the gas it sounds like all im doing is revving the car. :Do No: Had a problem with the bands about a year ago, put in a temporary fixer(band slip liquid), worked for about 7000 miles and now its back to doing it again. Does this sound accurate? The trans. is going to get rebuilt anyways this spring, but im wondering as to what this little quirk is? Local professional mechanic says the same as I do. Sound accurate? TIA

My father has a 91 Blazer, with the 4.3 V6 and 700r tranny, we were using as a work truck. It got to the point of when you step on the gas to kick it down a gear it would rev up pretty high and then slam into the next gear. It would hit the gear hard enough to nearly give you whiplash. We were also told that the bands are going bad in it.

Sounds similar, except for mine, I have to kind of give the accelerator a little tap before it will shift into a gear and if I step on the gas at all again it will start making the revving sound again. Best cure for slipping bands is a rebuild. Hope that's what it is but according to the local mechanic(a good one too) it seems to be the bands.

In a 3-2 down shift the intermediate overrun band is off. Intermediate overrun roller clutch is locked, intermediate clutch is on,forward clutch is on. Did you do a pressure test? It could be as simple as a broken accumulator spring; low main line pressure ,sticking valve,or worn clutch plates.

That sounds like an idea, I am no A star mechanic but I have one that does work on my car occasionally and this summer im going to have him do a complete rebuild since it could use one anyway, and if the problem persists, I will have him look further into it. Thanks for the added info. :)
