I guess the old "keep it simple stupid" adage has bitten me in the butt. I do not know the EXACT issue, but it is carburetor related. Pulled my carb and installed a similar Holley DP a friend had just purchased. Smooth as silk, and after a few minor tweaks, almost the same performance.

Leaning towards something on the secondary side. I've had issues with either the float or needle & seat sticking and pouring fuel from the boosters at idle. Happened once earlier this year, although I thought that was fixed. Maybe the same problem just intermittently? Either that or perhaps a faulty or blown PV? Either way very happy that it isn't something terminal. Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

Glad you got it smoothed out, but I would still keep an eye on the compression.

Compression will ALWAYS be lower when fuel washes down the cylinder of oil which is used to help seal things up. So after it's "Fixed" & after changing oil to a thicker blend, to help ward off the thinner oil being washed down with fuel, do another compression test hot & I will bet that compression will be better.

If you hear popping in the exhaust you probably have a broken valve spring or bent pushrod . Noises can help you in the diagnosis ..

A compression test will tell you just as fast as a leak down test and easier to do.
