More years ago than I really want to count, I had the fastest car in my high school. Chevelle? Camaro? Mustang? Nope. 1968 Riviera GS!! This car ran 15.04 quarters all night long at the old Orange County Raceway. Any way, back to the story. My best bud and I were cruising on McFadden Ave in Santa Ana, CA circa 1977/78 and pulled up to a light. Being summer time, we had our windows down and the tunes on.
As we sat there, the next lane over fills up with a brand spankin new Z-28. I said to my buddy (loud enough for the Chevy guy to hear) "Hey Dave, there's one of those new slowa## Camaros!"
Well, it was on after that. The light turned green, I let him get across the intersection before I hit the loud pedal and blew by him like he was tied to a tree! He turned into the next available street before he caught up to us, waiting on a green light so we could do it again.

Back in the late '70's when I was in high school my buddy's older brother bought a '70 Riv.
He bought it not thinking it would be a screamer till we found that the secondaries were stuck shut from not being used. (An older woman traded it in at the Chevy dealership he worked at in 1976.)
Anyways, there were very few cars that could even come close to touching it.
He even gave several police depts. in the north metro here a good run one night. They proceeded to stop him by running into the car and blocking him in. The only panel left that didn't have dents was the trunk lid. Of course that isn't saying much considering the anemic Mopar 360 "Lean burn" smog motors the police cars had at the time.
I later owned it as a winter beater, and I don't think my current '70 is as fast as that particular Riv was.
Even in a heavy car, the Buick big block rules the road!:Brow:

I had the fastest car in my school also, but it was a 1937 Century. We didnt race the 1/4 back then . It was mostly top end. The only car that gave me any problem at all was the 49 Olds 88. I had the 41 dual carbs and I did away with the Y pipe and ran dual exhausts also. The Olds would get me to about 80-85 and than that old 4dr Century would reel them in and blow them away!

back in the 90's I used to race mustang 5.0's over the market street bridge in wilkes-barre pa. If I could catch the light green on the other side of the bridge I'd end up in the parking lot at the bank sitting on my hood waiting for them to catch up.:jd:
    you gotta love the430 with a 4bbl.

    shades_o_Grey I am soooo broke

Back when I was 17 me and my best friend spent many a day wrenching on his '72 lark. It was a beater at the time, didn't run and look too good. After spending all of our money at the local scrap yard, we barely had cigarette money. But it was fun, because after a full day of wrenching, we'd spend the last couple bucks on a pack of black and milds, drive around town, and hit on all the rich HS and college girls drivin' SUVs. Actually caught a few, it's wonderful how some girls are just attracted to older buicks, whatever shape they're in:Brow:

"it's wonderful how some girls are just attracted to older buicks..."

It's even better when one of 'em is your girlfriend. Because of my financial situation (and the fact that I went to a private college) I didn't get my car ('84 Regal Limited with 30k orig. mi. and every luxury option available that year) until spring of my sophomore year. A week later was my girlfriend's Senior prom. She hadn't seen my car before that Saturday and was a little worried about going to a formal event in a car my sister's age... but it didn't take long at all for her to change her mind. And while we were there two of her friends offered to buy it from me! I just laughed at 'em. I wasn't a Buick guy until I got my Regal. I'd been saving for a light truck when this car fell into my lap. One drive and I was hooked! And how many new cars can comfortably seat six soccer players for a 12 hour road trip?
