How does this work for different size pistons? I don't understand how these work although I know it should be part of the engine build process.
If Nick passes I will buy this Wes.. we are having to bore my current one out to 4.500 for an engine project I am doing, and while it probably won't make any difference in how it distorts a 4.350 bore, I am kinda fussy about things like this. JW
It "acts" as a set of heads, and when installed, the block is "stressed" in the same manner as having heads torqued in place, so the cutting and honing are "corrected", as opposed to the "not stressed machine work" in the "relaxed state" and then when engine is assembled it introduces "distortions" that can be a wear problem, ring sealing and overall "now induced" stresses. It's used during the final hone of the cylinders. As stated, it mimics the distortion the block sees, when you bolt the heads on. If your wondering how much the 455 distorts, we bore to .005 short of the final size, so we can then distort the block with the deck plate, and then hone them straight. JW
Thanks for the explanation Gentlemen! Nick you’re up, you want to check shipping costs? Not trying to talk you out of it but shipping has gone sky high recenty. Do you have any connections or buddies with accounts? If not, send me your zip and I’ll check it out. Jim up next. Thanks, Wes
