I'm going to plead stupid here, but does anyone make headers for a 350 in an Apollo, or do you have to custom make them? These are a rear steer, and it looks tough.

Those are front steer cars, and won't fit. I can't believe that they are different, but they are. Maybe custom?

Oops, my bad. Further search indicates the Apollo/header deal is not simple.

Must not be easy, TA only specs for the 75+ Skylark, no Apollo apps.

I see Hooker specs 68-74 Apollo... :puzzled:

I wonder what they could possibly look like, 'cause you have to use the Apollo exhaust manifold just to clear the steering box.

It could easily be spec'd for Apollo's in error. Not uncommon for Buick applications to be incorrect from many vendors.

Hookers are for the 6 cylinder, I think. Must not be any. It's close.

Jim, I sent Mike G over to try and buy those headers off your buddy, I wish he would have called me I would have told him to take them for the 150.

I have been looking for headers for a 73-4 for over a year, nothing will bolt in that I have found.

I have been looking at replacing the steering box with a rack. They make some that will bolt on the back side of the crossmember. Not sure if it will make enough room. The white apollo in BG for sale fri, had a bb with what appeared to be uncut full lenght headers. But he used a rack to make it a front steer to leave room for the headers. I am considering going this route.

Doing my homework on this conversion for now:Do No:

I had decided the front rack was the way to go. That is probably what Tom Rix has on his a__ hauler. I have driven a friend's 8.40, 10.5 Monte Carlo, with a rack and pinion, and it drives like power steering. A good addition to any car. The steering box just won't allow headers.

i put a 430 in my 68 nova.used a 68 chevelle manual steering box and made my own set of headers, the drivers side 2 center tubes wrap around the frame.theres no room in them rear steer cars with a buick engine but it can be done with some fabrication

Jim, are you looking at moving the rack to the front or keeping it on the back side?

What brand of headers are you considering.-

I built the Apollo GSX that Tom Rix is racing. It has a smaller Vaga steering box. The Apollo is rear steering as required for the Top Stock class that Tom runs in. If I were to build another one and was not restricted to class rules, I would install a rack & pinion as it clears the Skylark GS Headers with little issues to resolve. I first modified a set of 2" Hooker Headers for my Stage 1 Apollo and they fix very nice. Later, I custom made a set of 2-1/8" headers. I still have my jigs and may do it again someday when I have more time.

    Headers by ED,

he will build for about 1100 dollars. wow.

You really dont lose to much with cast iron if you have good 2.5-3 inch exhaust, and free flow mufflers. to gain 20 hp unless going for 1 extra second on clock racing there is enough power with 455 in the car as is.
