Looking for a clutch recommendation. I know alot of guys like Centerforce but I have heard some negative comments. Anyone using the Zoom? It was recommended to me by someone.

The last Zoom clutch and pressure plate I used has a very high pedal pressure. We sill have the car--a 442. I still prefer Centerforce which we have in a couple of cars, including a GSX.

I wasn't going to comment since I hadn't used a Zoom one, but I too have good experiences with Centerforce. I have ~45,000 miles on mine. It's starting to look a bit thin, but not to the rivets, and was going to replace it in September but ran into issues with getting the wrong spline count right before I put the engine back in the car so the old clutch went back in. There are some drag racing runs on it as well and near as I can tell no slipping issues going down the track. I did baby it off the line though because I didn't have a scatter shield. I think I got a Hay's one now to replace it, along with a scatter shield, so I don't know how that one will compare yet. I wanted a Centerforce, but the Hays looked to have the same spec's for cheaper, iirc.

I used a Zoom in my last mustang, I'll 2nd the high pressure pedal, but the trade-off was well worth it. Clutch engaged within just a few inches of pressing on it, never slipped, and lasted me the entire time I had the car without slipping, and It went through a LOT of smokey burnouts, doughnuts, and drag-races :). It took a while to get used to the high pressure pedal, but when I did I fell in love with it. However, that clutch style was a cable type, not like the Buicks Z-bar linkage. I don't know if that would make a huge difference or not. I'll probably be going with a zoom on my Buick.

I run the Zoom Perfection in my car; it is a great clutch! Yes, high pedal pressure is a characteristic but if you don't mind that, the performance is well worth it. I actually prefer it now as other makes are softer and you don't have the immediate engagement /response feeling. Never slips!
