Anyone Running a Comp 9000 Breakerless and an Ignition Box?

History: Bought a brand new (being discontinued) 89-series Mallory Comp 9000 distributor back around 2004. After my motor was broken in, we swapped this distributor in. It's working fine w/o a box. There's a 3-plug harness coming from it that goes to coil and ground.

A while back I found a great deal on a Mallory Hyfire 6al ignition box. I got it mounted today and then started analyzing the wiring and what I'd do next. When I looked at the harness to the box, it only has 2 wires. But the one coming out of the distributor is a 3-wire harness.

Back around the time I got the distributor, it had been replaced with the 87-series which can be used with or without vacuum advance (mine is without only). I don't think you can buy the 8764401 anymore, but there is an image of it on Mallory's site:

It also has the 3-plug harness.

So for those of you (if there are any) running this distributor and a box with a 2-wire harness, how'd you wire it?

    Steve,

I'm running the Comp 9000 series also. Sent it back and had them remove the Unilite trigger and convert it to a magnetic pickup. Mine is also without vacuum canister. Two wires out of mine (orange and green). Connect to a purple and green wire harness directly to the MSD Digital 7+ box.

    Dave,
Mine is already a magnetic breakerless. However it does have the 3-wire harness like the unilite style. RobbMc told me to just use the wiring hookup diagram for the unilite style.
I'm guessing that their newer magnetic pickup versions come with the two-wire system. The picture above is the magnetic breakerless version that replaced mine, but it's essentially the same.

I bought and converted mine somewhere around 2001 or 2002. Sounds like hooking it up like the Unilite would work.
It'll be nice to see how the car runs this summer.

Once I get the box in, I can take it to a frame shop to get "straightened". That should take care of the passenger side exhaust wanting to rest on the U-joint. Once that's done, I've got a TH400 to be rebuilt - decide on what's happening with the rear, and then plumb the fuel system.

At least I'll be able to drive it to the frame shop soon. I could do it right now, but I want to get that rev limiter installed.
