Hi, I am on my second Muncie M20 in my 65 Skylark (running 401 nailhead) and am thinking about biting the bullet and getting a new trans with a warranty I would love a 5 speed, but don't have that kind of cash, but might be able to swing the price for new Auto Gear unit is anyone running one of these and any feed back good or bad is it worth it? Also how is a M22 based gear-set as far as noise going down the road is it livable as a semi daily driver? Thanks for any info, Jim
I have the M22 gears in a M21 case. Whines like CRAZY in 1-2-3, and 4th is quiet. I love the Rock Chrusher sound!
I run one of the Muncie Super cases with a new M21 style countershaft/input shaft with larger bearing/1st & 2nd gear/iron midplate on my 70 GS455. I bought my parts from www.5speeds.com It looks like the same Auto Gear parts you are looking at. I have had it behind my 470 cu in BBB with 500+ hp and torque for 7 years and have not had any issues with it. I hammer on it every time I take it out!:3gears: I have been very happy with the investment.
Hi all, Well after much searching and many calls to Autogear & Paul at 5Speed.com I finally talked to Larry at D & L and he is building me a M22W should see it in a few weeks so I will have some feedback on the gear whine and the redesign ratios Keep you all posted,
Hi all again, Got it back on the road, been driving it all this week and very satisfied with the Transmission and it really is not all that different from a normal M20 other than the gear whine and it is really not that anoying unless you are running up to 4000 rpm shifts, normal driving it is not that noticeable although my car has lots of other noises (off-brand flow masters, leaky weather strips and a bad shifter boot) Has anyone had issues with SHifter boots from OPGI as I am on my second one first one they replaced and riped during storage second just went in same spot, have another on order but wondering if there is a better supplier (running a 66 chevelle non console boot)? Thanks all and if you want a quality trans job give Larry a call, Jim
