Ive found and checked numerous sources that list the console shift boot for the 68-72 GS's but everyone seems to be out of stock or wants crazy stupid money for it. Anyone know who, what and when these might be available for reasonable money or did I miss the boat on purchasing this part? I'm not interested in a gold plated one or a 40 yr old new old stock in the box, its for a driver, not a museum exhibit. The generic hurst shifter boots just don't fit the GS's very well and none fit the console at all. anyone know of a substitute that will function and look decent in a 4 speed console?:puzzled:

    You techically have three options-

Find an NOS one- Made of unobtainium. A very rare material that some parts were constructed of. You probably have a better chance of getting the President on the phone than finding one of these. And if you actually find one, you probably wont be able to buy it as home mortgages are getting harder to get these days

Find a used one- Slightly easier to find, but I havent found one that isnt completely petrified, ripped or beat. I have one, but its in bad shape and un-useable.

Find a reproduction- Only repro I know of is made my Metro. How do I describe it? I guess its better than having a big empty hole, but thats actually debatable. Its made too thick, so the trim rings dont fit anymore. Its too shiny and fits like %^&$. With that, I have said boot in stock for $60 shipped. But I warn you, I dont like it and that why it isnt on my car

Thanks, I finally located and ordered one from CARS old buick parts last night and it reportedly shipped out today so I will see what is actually delivered. Thanks for the info on the metro unit , hopefully its not that manufacturer. I saw that Sherman markets one that was sold by a few other vendors and goodmark had the lower one listed for $65 bux, almost reasonable but unsure if they had any in stock tho.

I am well aware from 25 years of Buick restoration work that a large number of the parts are made from unobtannium. It used to be real bad about 20 years ago, and its a little better now, but you still cant mail order all the parts to build a new GS like you can for a stang or a chevelle but hey, thats what makes the GS's so cool. Not everyone can simply buy one in a kit and assemble it. Im still amazed that at a 1000 car local show, theres never more than a few GS's and GN's compared to a 100 stangs, 100 chevelles. Very cool indeed

thepartsplaceinc.com, sells them, $39. I have ordered from them often, they have lots of 70-72 GS stuff. They are out of Illinois, i live in Washington state, and i get my parts in two days, they ship and handel returnes in a very timely manner, also very reasonable shipping rates. They olso sell the no colsole boot repo. I was told thier company is the one that makes these boots, and before that you had to try to find a used or NOS one. just my 2 cents

NOS doesnt exist. Its a unicorn. You'll never find one. You can find used, but you wouldnt want to use it.

There is only ONE manufacturer for the consolette boot- Metro. Everyone sells the same one regardless of they say.
