After last years disaster with that ST-10, I'm gonna try something new next year. I've recentley aquired a Big Block Top Loader that I'm gonna adapt in my Regal. The problem is that it's out of a Galaxie and has a mile long tailshaft. I'm guessing if I want a short shaft that I need to either trade it even up or find conversion parts, which I assume to be a tailshaft and mainshaft. But, I best get with someone in the know first. SO does anyone here mess with these? Thanks:3gears:
You on the right track. If you need a short tailshaft you probably want to find the toploader from a 390. Strong wide ratio and short tail if its from a Torino or a Mustang. If you want to try to convert the parts are interchangeable and you should be able to find what your looking for . Try Hemmings for the parts. I just sold a short tail last year . My last Ford part.
I've been super impressed with Dennis @ DME Williamson, WV. right on the KY border, 606-237-6648 He has done my Muncie, now he is working on my Dad's Cadillac V-16 transmission... Recommended :TU:
don't forget that buick olds and pontiac used a modified ford 3 speed toploader transmission in the early gs 442 and gto. take a look at some mid to late bop bell housings with the two bolt patterns. i have one in pieces if your interested. (a trans not the bellhousing) -a
Thanks for the number Ted, I may give em a try. I appreciate the advice guys! I had forgotten about the Top Loader three speed equipped Buicks. I'm running a scatterbell so I'll have to retain that. :3gears:
