i have one in my ford 9" in my camaro. refered to as a "detroit locker" i personally like it. when it locks it is LOCKED. not to bad to drive on the street. they do make them for c-clip rears now also. good luck. p.s. i got mine from moser axles.

Paul, the Detroit Locker is different, and much stronger than a true-trac. The true-track is a variant of the torsen differential and is truly a limited slip. One tire has to turn about 1/2 to 3/4 turn creating a mechanical bind which "locks" both wheels.

The true-trac probably isn't as strong as a good clutch diff, and definitely not as stong as the detroit locker, which is generally considered the strongest, next to a spool. The best place for a true-trac is for the front of off-road 4x4's and front-drive cars as they allow them to turn corners better than any other option out there.

Like Paul, I have a detroit locker "soft locker" in my 9" and it is the greatest since sliced bread.

I would go clutch if it's a daily driver, and soft locker if street/strip or more.

i know the one your talking about. the one which has all gears inside the carrier. i do believe that tru trac is a company that makes a few different types of carriers / posi units. the gear type is for lighter duty use. they say there is absolutly no harsh engagement with those. they use them in road racing i believe.

Yep, you've got it pegged. Detroit Industries, or whoever they are called nowadays makes the trademark "truetrac" along with the orginal and still the best detroit locker. Or they did. Another name that fits somewhere in there is traktech, tracktech, or some spelling like that.
