Anybody in or around New Orleans?

    Mike Wowk Who freakin' cares?

Anybody here in the New Orleans area? I am going to be in town doing a trade show from Jan 7th-Jan 15th. I then leave and head for California. I would like to bring my dirtbike along because I have a few days to kill between shows and I would like to ride in Arizona for a couple days. Trouble is I don't think my bike would make it more than a couple hours into the first night before it would dissapear from my bike rack in the hotel parking lot. Is there a V8BUICK member who has a secure garage where I could leave my bike while I am at the show in New Orleans and pick it up afterwards? Or perhaps can anyone reccomend a KTM dealer in the area that may let me store it in the service dept for a small fee?

    Mike,

I'm in the area with a garage but it's full of cars and parts and my lot is not yet fenced in. I did find a KTM dealer in the area; here's the information:

    CHAMPION CYCLE CENTER
    1430 COLLINS BLVD. STE.B
    COVINGTON 70433
    USA LOUISIANA
    Tel: 985-867-3691
    Fax: 985-867-5019
    E-Mail: champcycle@i-55.com
    Internet: http://www.championcyclecenter.com

    Covington is:

-about an hour's drive from the city (New Orleans) via the Causeway Bridge ($3 cash toll one way)

    -relative easy to navigate through

-a safe and relatively crime-free coommunity.

Sorry I couldn't help you more. Let me know if I can be of any other information.

    Thanks Byron,
I called them and they said it would be no problem. I'll have 2 days to ride in Arizona on my way to California. It's one of the few perks to owning my own company and traveling alot is that I can bring my bike along and ride in some really awsome locations.

Where in AZ are you going to ride? Bring your snake bite kit!

There are some rolling sand dunes along I8 between Yuma and Sandiego that look like fun.

Snake bite kit?Why my Wife won't be there? Actually I'm not sure just yet. Earlier this year I was in Idaho and rode with a retired guy I met on a KTM website. He heads to AZ. for the winter and has invited me to ride with him. I am waiting to find out exactly where he is located. I recall him talking about desert riding. I also hope to get to some higher elevations as long as there isn't too much snow. If I have time I would also like to ride to the Grand Canyon. My bike is a Dual Sport so it's street legal. There's not many places I can't get to on it.

My bike is the main reason I haven't been as involved in the races on the last year. I've been having alot of fun riding.

    Mike:

    Joel's right.

Desert rattlers are one thing, but timber rattlers are another. They're huge. Seriously, I'd pack something like a sawed off shotgun if you get back off the beaten trail. Doubt you'd hear their warning sounds on a dirt bike.

We have friends in Phoenix area that used to like to jog up into the hills north of there. One day he didn't realize he was surrounded by 5 big ones. He didn't get bitten, but took him over an hour to slowly sneak back through and get out of there. Said he had to pick which rattlesnake looked the friendliest and go that way.

You would have had to box me up and plant me.

Mike, ditto on the snakes. I've been hiking out there twice and saw plenty both times. :eek2: They must have been left over from the invasion of Normandy on D-day. They still had the black and white insignias on their tails.

After living in Az for almost 9 years,I can honestly tell you, that right now, snakes are hibernating in the Northern part.As for the southern part (Phoenix and South) They might still be out.But if he does head South, then it will be on land designated for motorcycles, with all the tree huggers from California moving to Phoenix.Anyway,so then he really would not have to worry about snakes either.

After spending 15 years down South I know to watch out for rattlers. Plus when I ride off road I wear MX boots, knee guards ect. So I'm pretty well protected on my legs.
