Hi, I've got fresh paint on the car...'71 Skylark Custom convertible. It's DuPont Hot Hues Ragin' Ruby. The interior is pearl white with black carpet & dash. I'm on the fence with the top; was white, but I think black would be sharp. Obviously, with an aftermarket color I'm not going for authenticity. I'd really like to see any pics of your rides with a black convertible top, especially if your car is red...and I'd welcome any opinions as well. Thanks, Jay
Having had both a couple of times each, I vote for white, especially with the red, and white interior.
I have mixed emotions. First I don't like pure white at all, on tops on interior, because I can't keep them clean. I like black tops because they are very easy to clean, but they will fry you if up and driving in the hot sun. I liked the top I ordered for the red car in the picture to match my "dove" interior, did not cost extra, a good match, and I babied it to keep it clean. Covered the top at all times in the garage to keep the dust off.
If she were mine she would be getting a white top:bglasses: But if she were getting parked outside than she would be going black.
Top choices can depend on the look you're after. Here's my thoughts: I like light tops on dark cars, and vice versa. The car can have completely different "looks"...top-up and top-down. Tops don't have to be white or black. Mine is Bittersweet Mist with Pearl interior and a Sandalwood (beige) top. For me, white was too "bright" and didn't bring out the gold metallic in the paint. Since you're not going authentic, pick a color that makes you smile when you see your 'Lark with the top up...
I like something different. Typically , top matches the interior. I've seen a 72 Stage 1 Stratomist that was originally white interior/black top that he changed to white/white and I can't figure out why. Mine is Stratomist, black interior / white top and that's what's different about it. You don't see that often enough.Even if it's different, go with what you like. Not just the white/white or black/black.:TU:
