Well, I think my motor is broken in enough to just let it rip. So, on the way home from work this evening, I had found myself waiting to make a right turn onto a four lane road just outside of town. Along comes a new orange Camaro SS with black stripes on it. As he passes, I check him out and he checks me out. He's got a lady friend with him. So, after he passes, I make my turn and catch up to him; not too fast to make him jump, but fast enough to let him know I'm interested (he was doing around 35-40mph). Well, just as I near his rear bumper and start to let off a little to match his speed, he stands on the throttle and takes off. I've got it locked in 2nd gear and I guess my loud exhaust makes him think I'm going to try and get a jump. At this point, we're both at about 45-50mph and I could hear his motor spinning hard just before I romped on it. But, by the time my 2nd gear runs out of RPM, I've passed him and put about 2 car lengths on him. It wasn't the cleanest take, but there was no doubt whose car had the goods. It was my first bench mark with the new motor. I'm still smiling. :grin:
Thanks, guys. I had a case of the giggles right after I pulled past him. I've got to be careful, though, as I've got drum brakes on all fours. I took my father-in-law for a ride in it and he was impressed. He kept peeking over at the speedometer in disbelief as it swung from left to right during a couple of 0-100 runs. He owns a black '10 Camaro SS, '03 LS1 Corvette, '69 427 Corvette, and '08 Viper SRT-10 (all factory stock). After the ride, I asked him if he wanted to race me and he skipped right to the Viper. LOL! I'll work on getting some videos this week . . .
Ha Ha Ha...... I remember my first 70 Skylark 30 years ago. I put a built 455 in it Mickey Thompson headers and Ford 9" (mid 12's) but left the drum brakes. When you hit those brakes at 130 they'd just laugh and say "you want to do what!" Mikey
