Power and torque seem inline with a near stock build, but where is that oil smoke coming from?

The intake and carb don't match the combo or results .
Unless it's 9:1 and has a very small cam ..I was kinda guessing 530 tq 480 HP ..I could live with the tq # .....but less than a HP per cube id be very disappointed...

Alot of messing around for just a few tq and hp that no one would ever tell a spit over.

With it holding 15"ish vacuum at idle its a very small cam

Thats what Nick said, I watched as he went over and tapped on it but the smoke persisted more so from the right side it seemed starting from 3/4 to WOTo_O

Bet it would make more hp with dual plane and proper 800 Qjet.
What timing did he end up with?

They just tapped a punch in the hole to try to seal it.

But funny he built the motor and didn't know cam specs?????
Not impressed at all it's a stk motor

Shouldn't have that much smoke at high rpm anyway. Detonation or rings not sealed.

I have watch a lot of Nicks builds and Dyno testing.
I have to say, I'm not impressed with his work.

Sometimes to goes overboard trying to reach a HP or touque number.

One one build, he didn't like the static compression of 150 and he said, it should be 180 psi, so he milled the heads, but could only get 170 psi.
Many times he doesn't know the cam specs of the customers cam.
One show, he tried to mill a position valve relief cutter out of a old valve to he had. Didn't come close to working. So he had a company fabricate one. That worked.
Like I said, not impressed. VET

Agree. Mine just set in there....just wondering if there was a little splashing out on the header andbthe huge fans of the dyno room moved it around making it look more because in almost no time the smoke was gone also because the fans......so im thinking it looked worse than it is

With that carb and aluminum intake, and headers, I wouldn't think that is anywhere near stock.
Don't know what cam they installed but was impressed with the final touque and HP numbers.

Maybe that oil smoke was a leaking valve cover gasket?

I would guess that the rings aren't stable at high rpm causing excessive blow-by which is creating more crankcase pressure than the PCV system can evacuate.

Not a fan of Nick, aside from any history we have with him. He does and says so much stupid stuff, he's hard to repect, I certainly wouldnt let hime near my stuff... And yet, he's Canadian hot rodding's Celine Dion. Go figure.

At wide open throttle engine vac is almost 0, the system isn't doing anything at that time to remove pressure

Hey if he can make ppl happy with motor that is slightly better than stk output good for him. I agree it maybe makes a little more than stk, but for aka ported heads and cam.......which that cam is clearly very tiny to hold a steady 15" vac at idle. But will run power brakes very nicely which could had very likely been a requirement

I know for comparison a big cam like a 308s when I ran it with iron heads made like 5" at 900 idle

Peak power should have been higher than 4900rpm with cam, headers, single plane intake and that carb. I wonder if lifters pumping up and floating.....
I have a mild motor with Performer, Qjet, headers and SP2 cam that makes peak power to 5300-5500 and likes to go to 5800.
