OK guys--it looks like the "all original" black W30 is bringing them out of the woodwork. There's a gold/black vinyl top 70 W30 on ebay out of Canada right now(someone must know this guy)...but this one is a nice frame off resto. It will be interesting to contrast this one with the black one which was unrestored. I will try to put a link up here. This one is a 4 speed also and looks like a heck of a restoration. Is the seller Gene's son? or Gene? Patton
I own one of Mark's restoration ( with Gene's guidance) and I will garantee it it the best of everything. The Black car was a real original car, but for my money == give me this car any day. The work is done and done right. John
yes--the quality of his work was very apparent on the F85....top notch! Here's a link to the ebay auction http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=15287&item=2494353692&rd=1
70 W-30 Mark Nicoll is Gene's son. The car offered on e-bay was just finished and is a coincidence that he listed it this week after the black car hit a high water mark. The Gold car is another excellent example of Marks attention to detail, although, fortunately he started with a good example ( all the key parts were there). We are also fortunate to have some of the best parts rebuilders and suppliers here in Vancouver. The plating shop we use is the best and the carb guy turns out show quality rebuilds on the q jets. :TU:
Paul; Any chance you could PM me on some of those shops/suppliers that might be of some help with my Electra? Particularly the qjet guy. Thanks in advance.
I like to think (although I could be wrong) that I played a miniscule part in the beauty of Gene and Mark's restoration work, since I provided each of them with a copy of the 1970 Olds Engine Assembly Manual -- original factory literature that's hard to come by. Anyone who's working on a '70 Olds and is interested in having a copy of this manual should contact me. Shameless plug, I know.
Here's a perfect chance to test my theory. I said that I think that a frame off would not command as much $$ as an unmolested survivor such as the one that just sold on ebay for over 70K. It'll be interesting to see what happens. Especially with this beautiful example.
It will be very interesting to see what this one does. I took the liberty of shedding some light on the engine compartment.
70 olds engine manual Please let me know how I can also get a copy of this manual. What specifically is in it, engine specs, etc.? I have a shop / assembly manual which has a big engine section, might this be the same? Allen allioop108@aol.com
OK now it will get interesting. The top bidders each own one of Mark's restorations and are friends. This car would have been a 35- 40 k car a few months ago. The downside of the car for some people is no options , color, no console and vinyl top. The bidders paid mid 30 - 40's for the cars they now own. Let's see if another bidder jumps in and upsets the friendly battle.
me to Brian as I can use this on my 70 F-85. I have just recently learned about these engine assembly manuals. The trophy blue 69 W-31 in MN that scored 998/1000, the guy who did it has the engine assembly manual. He's told me a few details like the paint stripe on the dipstick tube. Thanks
