    Re: Re: America's Best Musclecar-1970 SS 454?????

As was previously stated.... "Let the flames begin!"

I'll take issue with the above statement.

"Back" when Petty drove, they did not have hand built tuee chassis cars, they did not have 20 second pit stops, they did not have $500 a piece custom made tires, etc, etc, etc!!!!!!!

They did have "stock" cars that they tore the interiors out of, put a set of truck tires on them, souped up the engines, and raced the crap out of 'em!!!!!

Today, any dork with a $100 to spare can take a few laps in a real winston cup stock car down at Disney world...

Back in "the day", it took a real man to put 6 inch wide bias-ply tires on a 500 HP monster and run it at 200 mph!

Sort of "Iron men in wooden ships" back in Petty's day!

And that's all I have to say about that!!!!!!!!!

As far as the Chevelle SS 454 goes:
    Best muscle car ever......NOT!!!!!
Most popular muscle car ever...... Well, I could buy that.

that freak Micheal Jackson is arguably the most popular singer, does that make him the best? i say far from it. the car magazines have blown so much sunshine up the chevelles tail pipe that the majority of car enthusiasts have been programed to believe it.
hey there nice cars but the best, sorry i dont think so.

kerry, this thread is about the 70 chevelle, what you said about dale earnhardt was really uncalled for. the man died doing what he loved.

Petty/Earnhardt, kind of like apples to oranges..

Kerry, do you even like Nascar? Why even bring up Earnhardt at all? The man was a great driver, but he's dead now. Talking ill about the dead kind of reminds me of talking sh%t about a man behind his back!:spank: Yup, I was an Earnhardt and still am a Dale Jr. fan. But I don't think Sr. was the best driver of all time either. But I'll say this, there is more than one team out there that still watches video trying to learn his tricks and they still can't quite put there finger on how or why Earnhardt was able to do it.:Smarty:

And EVERYTIME you think your car is fastest, there will ALWAYS be someone faster!:Smarty: As much as it hurts, there ARE plenty of faster Chevelles than mine OR yours!

Besides, even IF your car was faster than ALL Chevelles currently racing, sooner or later some guy with ALOT MORE $$ would come along most ricky-tick to knock you off your pedistal. :Dou:

    Ditto.

Anyways, back to the topic. 70 LS6 454 4-speed Chevelles, ROCK! GREAT CAR, IMO. Not a whole heck of a lot different than a GS, but I definately prefer Buicks more!:TU: Personal choice. It's what makes us individuals. I probably would NOT like GS's (OR Chevelles), if that was the ONLY choice of car to drive. I like being somewhat different than most... and NOT owning a cookie-cutter Chevy!:Dou: I guess I'm a guy that likes and respects ALOT of different cars, but I LOVE my GS!

    OVER!!!!!!!   :beer :beer :beer

Re: Petty/Earnhardt, kind of like apples to oranges..

The farther they've gotten away from a stock car?? There's not one single part on these cars anymore that is stock per say. And with them now allowing a Jap car company (Toyota) to start running the truck series and eventually Cup....HELL NO!! As the years have gone by I watch less and less of the races....boring!:boring:

I was just talking Shivvie....if you talk Shivvie you gotta talk Earnhardt. Just ask any Shivvie lover, they all worship the guy!  Walk into any of their homes and you will find at least one room that is a wall-to-wall worshipping shrine to him. And look at all the "#3" on cars and trucks everywhere you look, it's enough to make a person puke. He's dead...folks need to get over it and move on!

Sorry not talking sh%t about "the man" just because he's dead, I'd say it to his face. He was one of the dirtiest driver's ever to grace the racing circuit! If he wanted around you he didn't care about doing it the gentleman way and legitimently driving around another driver, he'd just put him into the wall....and that's FACT! He was called on it very, very few times due to the fact it could/would upset the majority of faithful Earnhardt Nascar fans and they (Nascar) just couldn't deal with the idea that that may interfere with their incoming cash flow.

His "tricks" are/were plain and simple.....put your compeditor into the wall buy spinning him out or whatever it takes if he won't move out of your way!

Never said, or came close to saying I had the fastest GS or am/was able to beat every Chevelle there was. I mearly stated that any (be it Chevelle SS454, ElCamino SS454, SS454 trucks, Camaro's whatever...and there are alot of them around here) I've ever encountered was given a BBB lesson....that's ALL I said so please do not read into something that is not there. Thank You! Oh...I've never put myself on any kind of a pedistal before either, spoken, written or otherwise.

Just speaking my peace Grant...Good night all...:3gears:

    buickman70 I pirated this pic!!!

I agree that the chevelle is the most popular musclecar, and popular when talking magazines means sales.
Nascar: I haven't watched a Nascar race since they went to restrictor plates. The only thing they do is cause crashes and Nascar likes that, because it is good for TV. If I remember right I think Bill Elliot qualified at something like 225mph in a 1985 Thunderbird! They ran 200+ and there were fewer crashes. Now they run 190 and it's a demolition derby with the street brawl afterwards. I know Earnhardt didn't like restrictor plates and he might still be alive today if they didn't use them. I didn't like him much but I respected his accomplishments as a driver and as a marketing genius. Marketing was his greatest asset, how else can you have millions of people worship a man like he was the Annointed One, when they have never even met the man. Their only connection to him was what the media and his marketing arm provided. This just shows how people's minds can be controlled by media and marketing. :spank:

    70 chevelle

well said jeff! i like all the a-body gm 1970-2 muscle cars. i like the BUICK no. 1, followed by chevelle ss, olds w-30 and pontiac gto. i was 17 years old in 1970 when these cars came on the scene. the buick gs didnt get as much recognition as the others until you came up against one in a street race. the 1970 buick stage 1 could run with any ss chevelle, including the ls-6.

I was running mid 14s in my Riv GS and the announcer was saying it was a good running OLDS Toronado.
When I used to race my GSX and they had hand written time slips in the 80s, if they didn't get my number they would write YELLOW PONTIAC.
Eventually they got it straight but then a new announcer would come in and say something like "yellow GTX".
Or the worst or best depending on your perspective...."that Buick must be Chevy powered!"
