Cool car for $3651. Last week there was a collector's estate being liquidated with 10 to 15 1955-57 Tbirds. Most restored or low mileage originals.

Some of us drove them, here's my 61 Plymouth Valiant after some serious transplanting from a 66 383 4 speed Dodge. Had fenderwell headers, virtually solid rear suspension, and the greatest street sleeper of all times. Only real give away were the "383 Four barrel" emblems I put on the front fenders in place of the V200 or Valiant or whatever used to be there. Actually that added to the "What the hell is that?" when I nailed it. Had to make those front rims to clear the exhaust which was between the tire and the frame. Accelerator pedal was just a rod hanging down under the brake pedal from the cable throttle control. No room after the center of the car was chopped out for the big car hump.

Drove this to work the first 3 months I was at Oldsmobile after graduating. Making big bucks, couldn't get financing with 1-A draft status. Eventually sold it for my wife's engagement ring. Your basic 10 cents on the dollar transaction. She was worth it. :bglasses:

Dave, I swear, you need to write a book! I'm amazed at all the things you did (and saw) "back in the day". Most guys I talk to today (at cruise nights) have been in the hobby since about...oh....2000-2001. And more often than not, the car they're driving they've owned for nearly...oh....a whole YEAR now. :boring:

Maybe in your spare time, you can start writin' some memoirs. :Comp:

Actually I have started writing little "stories' about these old cars I had. Kinda fun. Wish I had pics like this of all of them, but most of it is on 8mm film. Lots of overlap, though, I had 3 cars when this Valiant pic was taken in summer 1968. The Ramrod was new and my old 52 Ford was there, too. After I sold the Valiant, I bought my 3rd Pontiac, a 1958 pink and white Chieftain. That car would fly!

Dave - I have also started pulling some notes together.

I have posted them here, if you are interested (I think Mike has already seen this):

Keith, yes, I read that, and it was fascinating! Seriously, you guys should write a book. I think a lot of people would be very interested to read everything you've seen and done. :TU: Like I said, 99% of the guys at car shows, auctions, and cruise nights, can only tell you who did the restoration on their car(s), and how much they're worth.

    Keith,

I recall meeting your dad a few times at the NMCA meets with Rob. He was sitting in the tow truck listening to cassette tapes of big time drag races. No words, just the sound of big time horsepower. Neat person and quite a story there. Kinda reminds me of Vance Brady behind the scenes for Oldsmobile with Dale Smith.

At one of those NMCA meets, Vance was talking with Arlen Vanke in the bleachers and I was recording some of the action on the track. I set the camera down and didn't realize I had left it on. Got about 20 minutes of Arlen's foot and the two of those old legends B.S.'ing about "the good old days" when they'd have to camp on the race promoter and threaten him with physical violence (that's toned down and being polite) to get their share of the purse. Some of it was hilarious. I'm sure your Dad knew them both.

My little vignettes and episodes are nothing compared to your Dad's, good that you wrote them down when you did. Great reading. Thanks.

    Keith,

Dave H's original post, caught my eye here, being an AM guy,and I kept following the hyperlinks and associated text regarding the Seymore adventures.

Great reading, and thanks for posting it.

Your chronicalling gives a real feel, for the way things were,(behind the scenes) and that truely fascinates me.

Being born in 64' ,I obviously was to young to expirience those times as others have, but your writings bring it to life.

Thanks for the post, and thanks to Dave H. ,for hijacking his own thread. :TU: "You're expanding your HJ horizons Dave, going from AMC to Mopar to Olds and settling down on Pontiacs!" Keep up the good work!!!:beers2:

    Dave,
Your Valiant reminded me of an actual "Hyperpak" car in Canton, Ohio!
Don't know who had it, but with a 6 onto one collecter under the drivers door it made so much noise that after it went by, it took a half hour before you could hear normal conversation.
Had another buddy had a 68(?) Dart Sport with a Mr. Norm's 440 stuffed in it. SS 396's and GTO's :Brow: were breakfast for that thing. EXCEPT he would never run on the street from a standing start. The tires would simply not take full throttle until second, First was totally useless, except for starting rubber fires. Found out about BB Mopars and Mr. Norm from that thing:TU:

    Keith,
Quite a tribute to your Dad.:TU: :TU: Might also explain why Ford began losing races around that time and never really recovered until Tasca came along, 5 years later:Dou: .
