I am very new to this site or any site to be honest.

My name is Dave, I'm 56 Yrs. old, I live in Rochester N.Y.
I own a 1956 Buick, which I am just starting to make into a Street Rod. So ok I'm living in the past.

Are there people out there that are "Not" Classic restorers or newer car (late 60's, 70's) hot rodders? Don't get me wrong, if life is to go on, we need younger people to keep building the hobby. I am just stuck in the 50's

I am looking for people who have experience with hopping up these old timers.

I would like to replace the Closed Driveshaft, Rear End, and the Transmission.
I am going to need Headers, Cam, Intake (3x2's), and lots of Chrome under the hood.

Can anyone help an "Old Man" across the Street or Strip?

    Thanks for listening,

    Dave ,

welcome to the board. i imagine there are a few street rodders out there so fear not. there is a wealth of info on the board and as soon as you get a little more familiar around here i am sure you'll start finding all kinds of help. right now i am into the 66' 67' lark/GS cars as i am still trying to do some drag racing. but as i progress in years, funny how that happens:grin: , i have a 56' convertable that i intend to do someday . it's just a shell but thats all i think i will want to use. so as not to infuriate the restorers out there. anyways.....it is in a storage spot i have and will set there till i get tired of racing(let's see i'm almost 36 so i have another, say, 20 years to go ,ha ha).

anyways have fun and if you have questions just ask. there are a bunch of people on this board that i know will be more than happy to help if they can ........................

    later............................

Don't worry Dave, we're stuck in the past, too! My car was built before I was born, by almost two years.

I always like to see a rod done right, and there are too few Buick hot rods from the '50s.

What's the engine, a 322? A dual quad 455 with velocity stacks would look sweet under your hood...

You are in the right place!! I am older than you by a bunch, but I just sold my 57 Buick that was on a 72 Electra chassis, and am now driving a 37 Special coupe with a 455 and all the trimmings. i have had the 37 to California via rte. 66 and to many of the BCA and GS meets. You will enjoy the 55 more ,if you put it on a late chassis,as the handling and stopping power will be necessary. The king pin front end on the 55 leaves much to be desired, and the brakes are border line at best.

"Street Rods" or "Hot Rods" are pre 49 cars (pretty obvious where I stand on the what is and what is not a Street/Hot Rod). Doesn't matter though, you're definately welcome here and it sounds like your 56 is going to be a cool "Street Machine", "Modified Classic" or whatever else you can call it. I love the tri-5 years. Post some pics so we can all see it.
