I recently bought an aluminum radiator and have run into a little problem. The neck on the lower radiator is measuring 1.5 and outlet on water pump is 1.25. Just wondering what the solution is. Thanks in advance.

the optimum solution would be to have the outlet replaced on the radiator. that is what i would do.

Do they sell radiator hose that starts at one size and ends in another? :Do No:

I honestly have never noticed, I've always replaced OEM parts with exact copies, so it's not something I've paid attention too.

There is hoses that are bigger on one end than the other.... what I do is just go down to the parts store and go back and look , measure and search untill,,,,, I find one that will work...or that i can make work,,,,, old rodders , like me,,, have done this for years.... I got the same thing going on my 64 riv now,,, got to find a upper hose that will make a very tight 90 deg. turn and go down under the A/C belt and compresser....
i am using a Griffin aluminum radiator.... had to alter the fan shroud,,, make a lower pad for it to sit on.... and on and on... these things are the kind of stuff that when you fix one problem, it creates another problem...untill you get it all sorted out....

The radiator inlet and outlet for a Buick is 1.5". Chevy uses a larger lower hose, so it is likely that you have a radiator built for a Chevy.

You can either look for a hose at a NAPA with different diameters, or try to stretch the Buick hose over the larger outlet.

If he has a griffin universal, Ford has the same side inlets and outlets as Buick,,,,, I think chevy is the opposite of a buick....at least that is the way mine is... I am putting a big block Ford rad in my riv.....:eek2::laugh::laugh:

I used a universal radiator in my corvette and wound up with similar problem finding a lower hose to fit. I found a flexible metal hose kit with rubber couplings that were different diameters at my local Pep-Boys. It was a bit more bling than I wanted but it fit the ticket.

It is the griffin 8-70008. I would hate to have someone try and weld on new neck. Really don't wanna mess with the integrity of the piece. I .was thinking. I could try to work the hose on hoping I wouldn't have to take it off lol. But ordering that flex hose with different Size ends was another option but wasn't sure if they actually work. Don't want leaks. Has anyone tried the ford hose. The napa by me doesnt have the most knowledgeable staff and i can guarantee the wont let me go and start measuring hoses. Thanks to all that responded. I gotta do something. :TU:

I just purchased a Griffin.......just put some oil on the neck and heat up the hose with a hair dryer and it will slip on. There's only a 1/4 inch difference. Shouldn't be a problem!!! I was surprise how ez ez it was.

    Good luck

I had this same problem with a Griffinth Rad. I took it to a radiator shop and asked to have a new outlet installed. after hearing the price for the job, I bought a summit radiator that a board member (kick71) used for his Buick.
