If I put an aluminum flywheel in place of my heavy heat cracked steel one, am I going to run into problems? I am hoping not of course but concerned about weight issues and how I might throw off the balance of the engine. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks on advance.

Not only that If I put that lightweight one in, I think I am going to cause all kinds of problems. From what I'm getting, heavy car heavy flywheel. This is a mild build cruiser mostly with 3.55 and a m20. I replaced clutch last year and out of no where when it gets hot it chatters like crazy coming out if first. I stumbled upon this one on the board had it resurfaced. Looks like it will be for sale. Great the hunt begins for a 350 flywheel.

The weight of the flywheel doesn't determine the balance,if your engine is externally balanced the amount of offset weight on the flywheel needs to match what you currently have, that determines balance.

An aluminum flywheel will kill some low rpm torque and give you more upper rpm and it will allow the engine to rev faster. If wheel spin from a dead start is a concern with your steel flywheel an al FW would be a good choice to help you control traction issues for a better launch. I hope this helps.GL

With that lighter flywheel, make sure you have at least 10:1 overall starting gear ratio (first gear ratio times rear gear ratio).

What's the worst that can happen I have to pull the trans again. Jeez I am pretty much an expert at that.

Did clutch today. Couldn't see much wrong with the old one which had less than 300 miles. Put in a center force in place of the McLeod. The aluminum flywheel that I purchased of the board and had refinished appears to be for a big block. The total diameter is a half inch bigger. The center opening for the crank is also a half inch bigger. If anyone is interested it will be for sale. The only bad thing I noticed from the initial clutch was the throw out bearing. It was leaking grease and had play. Seemed to be decent on the test drive. We will see.
