Its me again, painting my 71 skylark 350 engine. Almost done, putting some finishing touches on the alternator. I was thinking of painting it aluminum, but i like the bare metal finish better, so i will clear coat it instead. HOWEVER, i havent been able to get the pulley and fan off to be able to clean it properly. From what i can tell, it seems to be original. There is a roughly 24mm bolt (might be imperial but 24mil worked for me), with an allan key slot in the stud. I got the bolt off, and i got the fan to spin free of the pulley, but neither of them want to come off the alternator stud itself. Does the pulley and fan come out with the guts of the alt, or am i doing something wrong?
