I bought 2.5 gallons of Evapo-rust from Car Motorsports (Alan Faircloth) and have been tossing 30 year old motorcycle parts in it for the last 2 weeks, I let it soak for a couple of days.....this stuff is amazing!!! will not harm chrome, paint, plastic or paint...just destroys rust, AWSOME, I will be buying more of this, I want to fill the 5 gal bucket so I can dip bigger parts in it.

    Thanks Alan!

Assuming the car to be 20 feet long and 5 feet high, plus allowing some margin at the ends for the cable swing on the crane and considering the volumetric displacement diplacement of the car stripped of all non metallic parts not needed to be dipped, I would say 1052.9 gallons will just about do it .

I don't want to buy any of this because I only have 2 control arms that need derusting. Everything else is done.

Anybody up for dipping my control arms for me? Of course I'll box them and pay shipping both ways.

Can I use this stuff on my tools? Can I just dip them in and not worry about it? I got a few of them that have rust from moisture and thought this would work. How much do you think I will need in order to do a batch of wrenches and sockets?

    Thanks,
    Rob

    Rob,

That is what I'm doing. I let my Craftsman socket set sit out in the rain for a couple of days and there all rusty. Gonna try this to soak them... cheaper that buying a new set. Alan says that it won't hurt existing metal but it will remove rust. so if the wrench is 20% rust you'll only have 80% wrench left.

I don't care cause sears will take them back if there broken (with no rust) but not just for being rusty:Brow: .

Got 2.5 gal comming for my tools. He says the stuff is reusable, you just have to clean the rust pieces out of the fluid to make it last longer.

I should be getting mine this week, I can't wait.

Kurt - what are you doing after the de-rusting to prepare the parts for painting? I am worried about residue affecting the paint down the road.

Would you de-rust before or after you strip the paint off?

    Bill,
on some parts I cleaned them with soap and water, on some others I just let them dry and painted them, I'm tossing a slightly rusted headlight bucket in there tonight, I'll take before and after photos and post them in a couple of days when it's done

    question???

Does a part have to be submerged or can you brush it on? I ask because I would like to get the surface rust off the frame of my car when I do the 455 swap.

    sort of

It needs time to work. You need to keep it wet too. So if you wrap the area with rags, sponge, diaper :jd: etc to keep the area wet for 8 to 12 hours, it should work. Keep reapplying the liquid to keep it wet.
I think they sell a "wrap" that sticks to the metal too, you might ask Alan about that.
Let us know how it turns out.:TU:
