Just picked up a 2 hp 4 gallon pancake compressor. Couldn't pass it up @ $49  I was wondering if anyone has run air tools with a small one like this? I will be running a 1/4" hose. The compressor is rated @ 4.2 cfm 90psi.

    Thaks, Kevin

You could probably run most air tools on it as long as you weren't running them continuously. Painting is a different story. Your limitation is your CFM capacity. Most air operated equipment is also rated at a CFM usage which is what you need to pay attention to when choosing equipment to be used with the compressor. Sounds like a pretty good deal for $49.00.

    Good luck!

Won't run a sander or grinder, well not for more than a few seconds... but it'll work great for impace guns, air hammers, die grinders etc...

I got one for free. The motor is an old Westinghouse that's made here in the USA (like everything was back then) And a big Speedaire tank. The compressor is from a big old store refridgeration unit. It runs slow but it's quiet. No need for a "compressor shed". (a little ldoghouse looking thing attatched to the garage that houses the compressor, or a closet housing it too keep the sound level down)

I knew the owner, and he was moving far far away. You could hook both of those little compressors in tandem if you want to run anything for a long time.:Brow: good deal yiou got there.

Here is what I wrote in a thread a couple of years ago:

Back in the day (about 1980 and still in high school) me and the buddy across the street rigged up a junk refrigerator compressor to an empty freon tank. We'd turn it on, wait about a half hour watching cartoons, use the die grinder on the 440 cylinder heads for about 5 minutes until the tank was empty, and then go back to cartoon watching until the tank filled up again.

Talk about your cheap air compressors!

Warning: don't try this at home kids.

i'm 18. I'm not a kid (not a wise old man either, I tell you), so how'd you rig up a refridgerator compressor up? How big is it? i'll get a pic of my compressor if I remember.

    **alzheimers!:Dou: **

what kind of oil is used in an air compressor? 20w50?
