Accelerator Pump issues

    Hi all,
Hope I explain myself properly here.
I recently re kitted my AFB and works great except for a real poor accelerator pump squirt. I have tried the different plungers that came with the kit to no avail. The new plungers dont match the existing one. I put the existing one back in and the same poor shot. I have to work the plunger arm from seated/idle to WOT before I get a squirt. It does squirt but only once WOT is achieved. I have tried the linkage in the different holes in the plunger arm, still no difference.
There was a jet type fitting in the bottom of the plunger reservoir that has a small ball and light spring in it that had broken free (folded tabs that hold the ball and spring had broken away).
Any ideas how I could fix this?

I have noticed that little ball valve in a couple , may even have an old 65ish carter i'll look at next time out in shop . i'm guessing that may work like the holley pump and close off when the plunger starts to move but with no ball etc the gas shot may just flow into the valve/ball area and not reach the nozzle .

So it must be a check valve, when the plunger releases it draws fuel into the pump chamber but wont let it flow out of the chamber.
Makes sense. Maybe that is the issue here. Not getting enough fuel in the pump chamber?
    Cheers

    lookin' like this ?
this is a view from the left float chamber looking forward to pump cylinder . hopefully your fuel bowl area looks a little better . this is a carter carb from a 65 dodge/Plymouth 413 .
if this looks similar then it appears to work like a check valve - plunger in up position , no pressure on ball , allows gas to enter plunger chamber . plunger moves down , pressure closes ball valve , allows gas to be pushed up n out of pump nozzle into the primary bores for your accelerator shot . with no ball in place the plunger motion just pushes a bunch of gas back towards float and you would loose correct nozzle pressure ( volume ) .

there MAY be a kit that contains that - but - its probably thought of as a "take it out , clean it" part . so maybe not . i'll check some info .
be warned , I tried taking that one out , not pretty so I stopped . can't drill and back it out like a regular jet . there may be a source ? old carb part out maybe ? carter carb supply guys ?
