I did a trial fit of my carpet from ACC in my car. The molded in relief for the tunnel hump is much larger than the actual hump. I have requested a replacement with a carpet for an auto car. I'm throwing this out there as an FYI for those contemplating a new carpet for a stick car. Picture of tranny tunnel:
Ken I did the same thing with the same result. It turns out if you talk to the right person at ACC, Judy Lee ,they have a notation in their records that it is incorrect. I sent ours back in exchange for auto set just like Duane said. Now you have to be careful as ACC has a "policy" that you must pay a 20% restocking fee --no matter what because those are "the rules". It took me a few calls but they decided that the rules did not apply when ACC made the error of selling a carpet with the wrong mold for a 4 speed Buick.
Thanks for the update, Jim. It could get extra fun as I bought the carpet from 1aauto.com through an EBAY auction and it was drop shipped from ACC. I will call the person you mentioned directly at ACC and see if she can resolve it. In the meantime, I have an email with pictures sent to 1aauto.com as my money went to them. Thanks again,
I have the owners name if you get in a pinch but this is fresh on their minds at ACC. Judy is their trouble shooter. She will send UPS after the carpet with a label for it to go to her and once she inspects it on return she will ship you an exchange auto version. What did you have to pay through the middle man?
Boy that is the way to go Ken. I paid $182.oo including shipping to assure I got the ACC. Did it have a pad backing attached?
I did that too! But I didn't send it back, just left it in for a few years, and not sure I think I changed it when the interior was out to be painted. Yes, I did change it, cause it was 7 years old by then and fading. Of course, Duane told me to use the automagic one too! Thanks Duane!
Yes, Jim, it does have the padding. In fact in the first picture I posted you can see the padding as I shot the picture under the carpet as I held it up. I have to credit this board as someone posted that 1aauto carried ACC. I saw it on an Ebay auction and went for it! So, Roberta, you're saying this problem has existed for going on a decade???? Wow!! I'm surprised there haven't been enough complaints by now to get them to change it in their catalog. o No:
Ken I see it now that I looked back. Duane said he had known about this for a longtime. I can tell you that the ACC plant manager "Rhonda" says she has never heard of such a problem with it but I will not go there now that ACC is making the swap.
I think I got the first set from ACC, I'd have to go look, or maybe it was Year One, it was 1991 when I did it! Either way it was ACC on the box, I do know that.
Guys, I try again and again to tell you about the problems I've run into over the years, but sometimes............. Roberta, No problem, glad to help. Duane
Ken, Thank God you didn't say Grandpa, or I'd be driving to Connecticut right now. :3gears: Duane
I just ordered black carpet for the Boattail, not sure which manufacturer since this is through a mate of mine who's in AZ now to load up a few containers with new and used parts. But they had to be ordered and special made, he told me. 210.00 Euro including shipping to the Netherlands, that's US$ 262.00.
