Anyone have any luck loosening the fasteners on the Ac box, move it slightly to gain some clearance for the TA valve cover? It sure looks like it will be tight, with motor torquing in that direction, I’m sure it will contact the Ac box. This is with a 455 thanks
I believe that’s pretty typical. You could probably grind off a bit of the corner closest to the evap box The Turbo Buicks were awfully close in the area also. The way it looks now, I don’t think it will give you any issues.
There is no play in the AC box on the firewall. It is keyed into a small stud that protrudes from one of the cowl parts. Plus, with all of the sealant around the box, you wouldn’t likely be able to move it anyway. These are really close to the valve cover on A bodies.
Years ago,I had a customer’s car that was running fabbed aluminum covers and AC. They were pretty much rubbing. When I had the engine out,I removed the side of the AC box and modified it. I cut away the section that protruded towards the engine, they re-laid new fiberglass on the remaining shell. You can get your entire arm down around it now. I will see if I still have pictures of that.
