For 1967 Buicks owners that show in the AACA here is a letter that was sent to me after submitting documentation to them for allowing radials as they first appeared in 1967 Buicks. Keep a copy for your glovebox for juding until the new rules have been sent out.
Very Interesting Keith. What type of radials were used starting in 1967 and what models were the radials available on?
all all models had the radial option - maker has not yet been identified - listed as 4 ply belted radial tires 7.75 X 14 / 205 R 14 8.25 X 14 / 205 R 14 8.45 X 15 / 225 R 15 8.85 X 15 / 225 R 15 Prices Special/Skylark/GS 340 series $88.47 Sportwagon $77.93 GS 400 $56.87 LeSabre, Wildcat, Riviera(non-GS) $107.36 Electra 225 $89.47 Riviera GS $64.21 Option code was F7 Whitewall only available
Thanks Keith - Were radials available on Buicks post 1967 as well? Reason I'm asking is I don't see that option for 1970 models (in my 1970 'A' body assembly manual). Maybe they were available on the other body styles? o No:
Thanks, Keith..........I copied that just in case...........I never knew that. I'll bring it to the local Buick show this month.:Brow:
yes and no radials continued for a few years and then exited for a couple years then cme back again - can't tell you with complete authority what year they stopped(I know available in 69) and I believe they started again in 1973 - 1972 they where not available.l The BCA has allowed the radials on 67's for a few years now, it's just the AACA that we had to get up to speed:beer
Hi Keith, I think that a 195R14 would be the correct replacement for a 7.75X14. Or, are you saying that Buick only had two sizes of radials available in 1967?
Guys, I checked my assembly manuals and here is the Radial Tire availability info I came up with; 1967 thru 1969 Series 3300, 3400, 3500, 3600, 4400, 4600, and 4800 ( All A-bodies) These had only one size radial available 205R-14 whitewalls. (The only exception to this was that no radial was available for 1969 44456 and 44466 models.) Series 5200, 5400, 6400, 6600, 8200, 8400, and 9400 (Lesabre, Wildcat, Electra 225, and Riviera) These also had only one size radial available 225R-15 whitewalls. 1970 thru 1972 No radials were available for Buicks. The assembly manuals list the radial sizes as 205R-14 and 225R-15 only, they do list some metric sizes, but they are for non-radial tires. Hope this helps. Duane
Here's a handy chart George - http://www.tirexusa.com/tubes/conv_bias.html Are you coming Saturday to E-town?
Hey thanks Marco,i`m gonna try to make it out there on saturday, its a 50/50 chance,if i come you`ll see me there with the black car saturday morning. Thanks
radials Geoge - the correct size for the "Wide Oval" redline tires on the 67's is F70-14 - the other regular tire size was 7.75 & 8.25 X 14 - So if your looking for correctness you couldn't get the radials in either the red line wide oval size or of course radials in the redlines at all. You will need to stick to the 205/14 size in whitewalls if you want the radials to be correct.
ok the reason i was asking was because my `66 GS has G-70 14 redlines which is a size bigger than the F-70`s and according to those tires for now i`d like to get new rubber for my `67 GS conv`t,thats why i wanted to know what the size was in todays sizes. Thanks
