I don't mean to hog this thread. But I do want to ask for some prayers for my son Tyler. He is the one we are building the car for. Tyler is 16, and junior in high school. About to turn 17. Football is the only sport he enjoys, other than soon to be drag racing. His lower back has been hurting while doing weight training. He is a lineman, so he has been lifting heavy stuff. His back has been hurting so bad, I took him to the doc with me on one of my visits. Well...after x-rays which led to mri's, he has a degenerative spinal disease and we go to the Neurologist on Monday to discuss surgery for him. Football career is over, no senior year for him, and he has been halted from all activity. They said his spine has moved already, which is causing the pain, and it may be so weak, he could have paralysis if he was jolted wrong. God bless each of you that read this "help from above" section regularly and offer the prayers for all of those in need. I intend to not need this column anymore for our own health reasons (because we will be ok) and start reading it more to offer prayers for all others.
Mark, thoughts & prayers going to you & yours. Make sure you get a 2nd & 3rd opinion...Doctors are just mechanics. Devon
My prayers are with you and your whole family . Please get a second opinion , I did with my back problem . Am glad I did as it helped me get the best care possible . Try better than I did to do as the doctor says . Good Luck and may God be with you .
Wishing you're son well ... ... Devon's words are very true. My wife was an O.R. nurse specializing in neurology (back and brain surgury) for 9 years. I wont get into details but I STRONGLY suggest you not only get multiple opinions about the diagnosis but also the course of action to take. Like Devon said, they are just mechanics and we all know there are good and ......
My prayers go out to you and your son as well. I have to x2 this advice. I work in th OR everyday as I have for the last 15 years with vascular surgeons and YES you need second opinions and all options laid out especially since he is so young. Mike
I want to thank everybody for your prayers and concern. Here is an update on Tyler. He has had a nerve conduction study and they found "minimal permanent damage" and most of the damage is reversable over time. He has had x-rays, CT's and test to determine if his spine is still moving, and if it is, he is still at high risk for more damage. We go back to the Neurologist on June 2nd to find out the condition of his lower spine, and what can be done to fix it. And if surgery is required. Doc told him no more contact sports, and Tyler asked "what about drag racing" and Doc said no problem with that he didn't think. Wait until test are complete.
