I've always been told that to replace the motor requires removal of the fender or cutting an oval hole in the inner fender. Last weekend a fellow said he had replaced one by loosening the inner fender. He remembered needing to be a contortionist (sp?), but got it done. Anyone know if there is any truth in his statement? I hate the idea of cutting the car or having to disassemble it again.

I've heard this can be quite an ordeal. I remember the shop that resto'd my car put the inner fenders on sometime after the outer fenders. Very, very carefully, but they went in. They might also come out.

Thanks, Steve. It sounds like a project regardless of approach. It's kind of amazing- They must have expected the car to die before the fan motor!

Yes put in a thin block of wood at the bottom and you can move the inner fender down. Be sure though the motor is the problem. For example it has a separate ground wire to the case thst can come off which does not require reomval to fix.

Jim, it still blows, but only at low speed. If I move the switch to max and wiggle it a bit, it picks up some speed, but only a little. Not enough to cool the car in our summers.

    Jack,
Have you checked all your electrical connections, including grounds?
Only one wire goes to the motor. Current is passed thru a resistor bank, based on the dash switch position. Check your switch & the resistor. It's under the hood on the AC box. It is fastened with a couple screws to the front of this box.
Might find it & save a bit of work on the inner fender.

Either the switch or the resistor array but not likely the motor.

Jim & Steve- many thanks for your help. I'll try to slip this project in between Honey Do's this weekend!
