"Like new" --- a lie. It has 147K miles, and the motor has been grenaded. Strike one.

"Price $100" -- a lie, which he admits to having done in order to get your attention. Strike two.

It's not even clear whether the CAR is for sale, or just parts from it. Might have been more honest to say "Parting out, no part more than $100" or something.

I sold my 98 about 6 years ago, it just needed SO much work, and my daughter needed a newer vehicle to drive to college. The day after I sold it, the guy texted me that he blew it up.

What happens is a new driver wants to floor the gas pedal, it's addictive. Then because you might have some injectors that are partially clogged, you get a cylinder running lean and it detonates, and that frags a piston or two. You don't have to floor the car to make it go. But guys abuse the car. It's a shame.

Well that's true, but not the case here. The guy was a local mechanic who had been buying and working on the last gen SC Rivs for several years. He took it on a short test drive down my street before buying. I think he had it floored most of the block. I wasn't impressed... but he bought it. I think he texted me hoping I'd offer to take it back. No Freakin' Way.

Was talking to a friend's brother at the track a while back...somehow we got on subject of Reattas and I mentioned mine I had just bought. Turns out he had test driven it a few weeks earlier than when I bought it and said they flogged the living s&$t out of it......trying to see if it had a rev limiter, doing or trying to do burnouts, etc......
    Hopefully no neutral drops.....
    It still runs.....

I would have a fit if someone test drove my used car that way! I have spent a lot of time/breath trying to explain to my 16 year old new driver, that IF you want a car to last, you need to be gentle with it. Sheesh.

How is it not clear that he is parting it out?

The ad basically says "98 Riviera, $100."

Now if you want to claim that's the price for the sum total of all the parts on that car that he is parting out, then yeah, he could be telling the truth. But I think normal people would infer that he wants $100 for the car. Yes, it's true that once he's click-baited you into reading the fine print, THEN he makes it clear that he is selling parts of the car, and that the $100 price he mentioned was total and complete BS to get you to look. I wonder what individual parts of that car he would actually let go for $100. The ashtray?

    Hagerstown is sketchy?

Looks like a darn nice car sans the "blown" engine.

LOL. I just got back from a trip to Hagerstown. It didn't seem too scary. At least I've seen worse places. :)
