I have an ongoing issue with my daily driver that I can't seem to figure out. When I brake hard at any speed, I get a distinct "POP" or "SNAP" noise, which sounds like it's coming from the front end. I can feel it near my feet, and on the floorboard. Here's what I've done to the car recently: -New lower control arms on both sides (new bushings and ball joints) -New inner tie rods and alignment -New rotors and pads -New sway bar, end links, and frame mounts; the old bar broke, which is a common problem It seems to travel straight down the road, and there's no play in the wheels (up or down), which would tend rule out a steering issue, or a wheel bearing. The alignment was done, but the steering wheel is slightly off-center. Things that could be wrong: -Sticking caliper? There was normal wear on the brakes before I changed them, and they compressed easily . . . -Bad caliper brackets? Not sure if this is even possible . . . -Bad CV axle? Good boots, seem to be tight, slight movement when rocking car back and forth from both sides . . . -Intermediate steering shaft? Heard this was a common problem, not sure how to check it . . . I'm not really sure where to go at this point. Hate to keep throwing money at it when I know it's not going to last forever.
