I have a 73 Delta 88 I use to tow my 72 Cutlass to the track with. It has a 3:08 open 8.5 rear in it. It is hard on the axle bearings and Im getting sick of changing em. Anyone have one of these big car rears? Id like 2:73 gears or better with 3:23's being ideal (hard to find though?) Im near Chicago. I can't find anything in the yards. I have 2 8.5" rears or cash Id be willing to trade? Posi isn't important, just looking for some more strength and reliability here. Anyone? Please email me if you wanna reply because being an Olds guy I don't come on here much.
No I can't get up there Id think shipping would be more than the price on that rear? I figure it can't hurt to ask here though, thanks. An Olds guys money spends just as well as a Buick guys $$$ Anyone? My email is Forgingman@msn.com
i know my father has both a 9 3/8's and 8 7/8's rear (both open) but i'm not sure what the gearing is. i'll try and get ahold of him tomorrow.
old man verified for me, it's a 2.73 on 9 3/8's ring gear, complete drum to drum. he's coming up from Fla for the July 4th weekend. says he doesn't want to deal with it for less than $150. if you decide you want it we can drop it off sunday noonish to 3pm or so. whaddaya think? he's going to be leaving thursday so i'll need to know by tomorrow evening or it's not gonna happen.
That sounds good. Problem is Im going to visit friends in Michigan this weekend myself. The price is right. I gotta go through Indiana to get to Michigan though.... How far off I80/94 are you? Got an address/phone number? I would pick it up or meet you 1/2 way on the way out there? E mail me your # and we can set something up?
I-80 i'm close to  . I-94, not so close ou: . the trick way to get here from chi-town is to come out I-94 and take the South Bend exit for US 20 (exit 40). go due east til you get to the light where US20 takes off to the north but Indiana 2 continues due east and continue on IN 2. jump on the US20 bypass on the west side of south bend. you're familiar with Mishawaka/South Bend/Elkhart? i'm due south of Elkhart about 10 miles on St Rd 19. you'd turn south from the US 20 bypass. dad is going to be staying at grand-dad's though, and that's up next to the rail yard in Elkhart (within ~5 miles of the US20 / St Rd 19 interchange). he should be in friday evening or saturday morning. i don't know how that lines up with your schedule.
That sounds fine to me, Im leaving for Michigan on Saturday morning. Check your PM's for my phone number and gimme a call so we can set it up? Thanks
