I've been exploring this rabbit hole for almost 2 years now. While I am all for keeping it original, (to an extent) I've been looking into replacing my rear end altogether. However, no shop will build me one. They just want to sell me parts to do myself.

I will bet you that Brian or Jim on this Board will do this build for you.

Would this work for my 61 Lesabre 4 Door HT

No. You have a torque tube drive and without a ton of fabrication the 8.5" won't just drop in.

    What about a 62 Lesabre?

Same deal. Buick used Dynaflows up to 1964 when they changed to open drive lines and more modern transmissions.

61,62 and 63 were open driveline with the Dynaflow 1960 was the last of the torque tube for Buick.

Really? I was not aware of that. I thought it went until 1964. My bad...

what is the primary failure origin for the 9-3/8” rear? Can it handle sustained 500hp/535T loading like in a closed course?

No, he is not. Do you want to ask him something specific that wasn't answered in this thread?

Thanks for the quick reply.. Sort of yes because he specifically listed years of 9-3/8 rear in a previous post.
Obviously many of us are on a search. I have a 70 Estate Wagon. Would a 68 Riviera rear be compatible? From everything I’m reading, the answer would be yes… but I just need confirmation.
    Thanks!

I am currently working with Quick Performance on building me a 9in that will bolt into my 68 electra. They asked for measurements center to center for the upper and lower control arm mounts as well as housing left and right length. I will post up more info as soon as I have it. Should hear back soon.

So just to be clear, this swap has been done? This would fit in my 68 electra?

The complete rear will not work. The 70 Estate Wagon is different. The internal parts carrier, bearings and gears are the same. The axles are different too.
