I've got a 89 regal limited w/ a 3.1 6cyl that has about 157k mi on it.LOL She's been sitting forever. Before she was stored I had the brakes done and transaxle overhauled also a new alt. The engine still runs tight even though theres a small knock (ping) on the cheapo gas. What can I do to get rid of the ping on this bad boy without having to up the octane. I know about the cool plug dealio. I 'm curious since its Multi port injected if theres an electronic way of ridding her of the ping. Can theese 3.1's be reprogrammed via the diag port under the dash near the right knee? IS there a way to retard slightly to avoid pinging under load and under idle. only pings under idle when its running 87 and warm.. IS this more a faulty cooling issue than an advancement issue in timing?
