  1. hey i am looking for an original 8-track player for my 69 wildcat. i do not want one that works it does not even have to have any of the mechanical parts i am looking to use it to mount a new stereo inside it to hide the fact that the new stereo is there so it is not stolen out of my drop top. i do not at his point even now what the original one for this car looks like i have seen it done with other models. i have found one on e bay and want to know if it is the right one or if anyone has one they want to sell

The original 8 Track is not wide enough for todays head units.
If yiou need to see a pic to compare, let me know?
I'll dig mine out and put it against an original GM CD headunit.

Matt, i put a sony cd head unit in my 69 wildcat under the drivers side of the seat for now. I- 2 wanted to hide the head unit and not disturb the original am radio. I left the wires long enough so i can bring it up on the seat to change a cd or adjust it. After a while you can get used to adjusting the volume, switching to fm radio/cd etc while its even under the seat. I found it was less expensive to do that than buy retro units you can buy that accept cassette tapes(who the heck uses cassettes now!). The sony i bought has a aux in the front for Ipods, sats or ? plus has enough power (no rca outs) that you don't really need an amp either. Mine seems to sound fairly good but thats just my 2 bits worth...

Got a PM... Now I wonder if the one I pulled out of a 70 Wildcat was aftermarket? Sounds like some have hidden a newer headunit in the 8-Track player.

Here is a pic... Is this the orig or aftermarket?

nope they didn't come with a muntz, when my dad brought his 69 cat home with the optional 8 track player, GM even supplied an 8 track mixed tape in the glove box...I'll never forget the first ride and the awesome mono sound of Herb Albert and the Tiawan Brass:Brow:

You may consider using a tissure dispenser instead, it is already hollow and is larger then the 8-track unit ( i.e. more room )
