That a confusing enough title for you? Anyway, I found a 1978 Regal 2dr, orginal V6 4spd car for relatively cheap though with a potentially sick V6, 4 bad tires and in need of a through brake job. Since its looking like I will need to buy the whole ''64 LeSabre 300 motor I need the oil pan off of to garentee I get the right pan, well thats a home for the aluminum headed 300. Since 4spd is cool but I'd like OD I was thinking a World Class T5 out of an '88-92 F-body would be the easiest way to go there though it would require floorpan surgery to get the shifter hole coming out properly with the 18 rolled tranny and then either a bucket seat swap or shifter modifications to get it around the bench seat. Thats one idea, another is to pull the sick V6 and junk it, get a junkyard 3.8 or 4.1 for cheap and drop it right in and use my left over Turbo6 EFI stuff and convert it to EFI with a GN or Spectre reproduction tank and fuel lines. Or I could do the same junkyard motor with my 4.1L 4bbl intake ported out a bit and keep the non computer stuff from the original V6. Just felt like sharing, feel free to comentate,
you found a 78 regal with a manual  BUY IT as far as the 300 id say go for it,ive almost thought of putting one in my regal myself.
Well its looking like unless I end up with a complete 300 V8 out of a '64 LeSabre I'm going to be using my 4.1L Turbo6 minus turbo and use this as an opportunity to debug the EFI and engine before I commit to a custom fit swap into the Riv and risk the expensive stuff on experimental EFI and oiling systems under boost. The T5 though might be a go if I buy this car.
how much power you plan to make as the t-5s werent the strongest in factory form if looking for serious power 300 or more i'd go with the tko trans the site is something like http://www.5speedtransmissions.com/
200hps maybe... the V6 has 8.3:1 compression, ported heads, bigger roller cam but still probably wouldn't make 200hp. the 300 would be bone stock and its 250 rated from the factory in 64 so I'm thinking I'm well within the durability range of a WC T5.
yea, they didnt handle that well with the stock 302s and powershifting lol i'm sure it'll make atleast 275 pounds or tq though, it'll make into a pretty fun car.
CTX: I just noticed you are in Nashville. I live in Columbia. Did you find the 78 around Nashville? I been looking for one. How'd you trade it to a 83 Regal with a 9"' Ford rear and a rollcage and T-Tops and a new white paint job. I wanted a 78 to run in the NMCA NMC class. Tried to sneak in the 83 but they caught me. Oh, I have a 67 340 engine and a 4 barrell intake for a 3.8-4.1 V6. Good luck on your project. Jim N.
Oh, I had a student in the early 80's that bought a 78 Cutlass with the 260 V8 and a 4 speed or maybe 5 speed. Any way he went through several transmissions. He liked to power shift and got real good at rebuilding manual transmissions. JIm N.
Nope, sorry this is not a local car. If I decide to pass on it I'll be sure to pass the contact info your way. From the information I have gotten its a true stripper, 4spd, V6, no AC, manual windows, manual locks, manual mirrors, don't have any engine bay pictures but I bet its got PS and PB just because its a Buick and I've not heard of a non PS G-body. As for your car and stuff... I'm not interested in a race car, sorry and I already have a 4.1L 4bbl intake from my 4.1L parts motor. If I buy this it will have my 4.1L Turbo6 minus the turbo and turbo plumbing and I'll be sorting out my hybrid gerotor oiling system and L67 3800 Series II computer system. The W/C T5 is a secondary thought after the rest of it would be working since I still have a steep list on the engine to finish. Keep ya'll posted,
CTX, yes if you don't want to go with this car, I would be interested. I can travel. Thanks, Jim N. PS I like the idea of the 3800 engine. I had a couple of those that were supercharged and let them get away.
My currently forsale Regal GS has one in it and I'm impressed by the computer controls system for how well the aftermarket support has developed for it. The engine is a classic '84 Electra 4.1L (252cid) V6 with a forged rotating assembly, CNC ported heads, roller cam, and an '86 LC2 (T-type) intake manifold. I need to iron out how to make everything work with using the later ECM, harness and sensors with the classic stuff. Fortunately it looks like everything is just parts evolution and the important sensors wn't take much to swap out one for another. The other tricky thing is a Series II front cover oilpump section used for a better oil pump and increased clearance with the Riviera forward mounted engine crossmember.
hey didnt you need a 64 300 oil pan, think i may have found one...guy listed it as a 64 Buick motor 330ci 2v skylark ou: maybe i can just get the oilpan off him unless someone also needs aluminum heads
It has to be a '64 LeSabre pan. I already have a '64 Skylark, a 66 fullsized, and a '68 Fullsized 350 pan already and none fit.
oh yea, forgot its not a xframe car...i just seen the year 64 and x-frame clicked lol sorry for getting your hopes upou:
