This 77 Regal im working on supposedly has a bad super heat switch. I'm assuming the super heat switch in the back of 72 and up compressors act as a rudimentary cut off switch?

The wire from the super heat switch would normally go to a thermal limiter fuse, but I don't see one anywhere. The wire from the switch seems to go to the negative side of the compressor.

So I'm going to guess thst the switch breaks the ground when the refrigerant gets low? It's been converted to 134A on top of it...

So if the pressures are good on my gauges, all I really need to do is just provide a ground to the compressor and bypass the switch correct? I want to make sure I'm understanding this correctly.

I just had an epiphany....there's a threaded port on the receiver dryer. I wonder if I could get a later model cut off switch and use that port. Then just rewire it....

When the compressor is working too hard is when that switch goes bad as in low/not enough/or too much Freon.
Since 134a has higher operating pressures this could be the reason.

I found a cut off switch in four seasons thst will thread onto the service port on the dryer. So if I have continuity across the terminals, im thinking I'm good. Even if the system is off, it should have somewhere around 80 psi.
