    Your radiator just broke:cool:
    Order a new one.
The oily film you speak of is normal in neglected cooling systems, your fine with a flush and refill of 50/50 mix AND a new radiator, whether a stock copper/brass or aluminum.

    Excellent, that’s the confirmation I needed :D

I figured it was toast but wanted to be sure. Good to know that the oily stuff isn’t a huge cause for concern. Will be keeping an eye on it though just in case. Thanks for the reply!

New radiator came and is finally in. Flushed 6-7 times and found out the gasket I got with the new thermostat housing was garbage so had to get a new one, thermostat went in fine with the other one. Temps are rock solid at 180* now at all times, gets up to 185* at the most while I'm idling. I'm still nervously checking my temp gauge at stop lights but I'm sure I'll kick the habit soon. Thanks again to everyone who contributed to the thread, I really can't overstate how appreciative I am for you guys and the knowledge and experience you're willing to share!

I would still flush out the system again, but for the sake of how much rust scale there is still in the block itself.
This time use the two part Dupont brand flush.
    It's a acid and a neutralizer .
Since your system was in such a need of a overhaul and not just service, I guarantee you will be amazed by what will still come out of the block with this flush!
