I would REALLY like to find a 7042242 date coded closer to my car's build date of 12/71. The Q-Jet below has a date code of 2511 , which means it was built on the 251st day of 1971 or, if you really want to be particular, Wednesday, September 1st 1971. I'm only interested in trading for a good rebuildable core that's not a TOTAL peice of crap. The carb I have now is in decent shape and would obviously need to be rebuilt but seems to be pretty complete, as you'll see from the pictures. So, if any of you 72 Stage 1 owners out there have the right numbered carb but would like to do a straight up trade for this one (providing it's closer to your car's build date) feel free to contact me and hopefully we can work something out. Thanks in advance! :TU:
Good question. Is it located on the cowl tag? If so, I don't have access to it right now... Would it be in my Sloan documention or on my window sticker?? o No:
Hmmm.... I wasn't really sure how much of a window there was for date codes. I just figured it had to be within a few weeks. I guess I probably should have inquired before posting, huh? o No: Live and learn, right?
Hey Brett, Do you Still have that carb #7042242- I do not have 1 to trade- are you willing to sell and if so how much??? Or do you know where I can get one? Gary
Brett, They made the stage 1 carbs and distributers in batches. Due to the low production numbers the part date code vs body date code can be some time apart. Then when Buick started running out, they made another batch, and the part date code would get closer to the body date code again. I have been trying to put a list together of original date codes for these parts, but do not have enough info to begin it. Maybe everyone could PM me their date codes so I can get the list started. Duane
Gary, After reading the info in this thread, I'm going to keep the above mentioned carb. Sorry. Duane, I'll get the date code off of my distributor and send it along to you later on this week or this weekend. Thanks for the input! :TU:
