I am not trying to be ignorant in anyway.
But I would consider finding another body to start with.
If the windshield and pillars look like that then the rest of the car probably did not fair out to well either.
    Just my 2 cents.

I agree with Dustin. I would look for a clean southern Skylark car. Actually, here is a 70 and 71 in FL going for $2200 for both. http://v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=60577 I would think you could use some of your 72 differentiating pieces to conserve your 72GS. Just an idea.

If i was into retagging i have a 71 in my garage that would be a perfect donor body but id rather fix it just in case i want to sell it sometime.I just dont want any problems with the law.I can do all the work myself so that will keep the cost down.

That is great that you are able to do that work. I wish I had the talent to do body work. It is truely an art. I do not have the ability to see what something can look like. I wish you the best of luck finding the parts, I know they are around. Keep the pictures coming with the progress. I am sure you will have an awesome photo album to see your work.

I don't want to dissuade you from your project here so I will offer my opinion for free and you can take it for what its worth.I will tell you that over the summer,I have COMPLETELY dissassembled and cut apart 5 Skylarks/GS cars that were only parts cars.None were good enough to salvage,so I did what was needed in each case.I have worked on several GS' over the years and until now, haven't really understood just how they were put together. As I look at your car,I see that the dash area is rusted badly.I thought that it would be nice to cut a dash out of a donor just in case ever came across an X that would need it to save it.Little did I know just how hard and much needed to do this "simple" task. There is a whole lot of cutting and trimming that needs done to use this.I laugh at the people who are against re-tagging a car and simply say just cut another dash or cowl out and put it in.There is a huge amount of work that needs to be done to do this.Would I do that for a 350 car?Probably not.455?maybe,maybe not.An X? YES! I applaud you that you want to fix this car and you certainly have more skills than I do to attempt this.It can be done and I hope you can show us your determination to finish it.Asfor the parts to fix this,I hope that there is a local person that will sell you these as the shipping will be a bear.If you lived closer,I would donate a roof that I have cut off and could possibly provide a set of pillars. This will be a big undertaking so keep the faith.Yes,I know it would be easier to locate a southern body but,if you are like me,the funds aren't there rigt now.In my opinion,I would try to find another donor car that has the front part(COMPLETE COWL) in good condition and remove the whole cowl area and weld it into your car.Good Luck and keep us posted.

Hey guys i'm in illinois so shipping would be expensive from any of ya'll,but thanks for the offers.I'm hopin to find something locally if i can. my dads shop has a 68 skylark i'm gonna get the floors out of and i'm hopin that the cowl and the windshield post are something i will be able to use. I'll be posting more pics in the future when i make some progress.I dont care if its a 350 or 455 car at all its a GS and i know i can save it. In 15 or 20 years these car will be getting scarce so if i can save 1 GS 350 i will. :TU:
