just curious and would like some feedback. 72x 350 car. restoring the engine at this point. factory looks like the entire engine was assymbled going down the line and then the engine was painted the oe red over everything including the fastners and some over spray on the exhaust manifolds. my question i love detail and on other builds iv done (chevys/mopar etc) i have used restored clean painted fastners (other than engine color) on all the bolt ons..intake,pan,v covers etc etc. id like to be as close to factory as possible (so im prob awnseringmy own question)..is a over restoration a plus or minus to most? just talking out loud. thanks example of each style in pictures.
I like both as long as it’s clean and consistent. Don’t forget to get over-spray on the distributor also if your going factory.
Neither picture looks "factory", way too nice - there are some threads on here with pictures that show how they were painted. Remember the factory was doing it for money, not glory! ANOTHER QUESTION. 72 350. left side exhaust manifold has a heat shield on it,it has a cast looking finish not smooth but is a stamped steel part. anybody know if thats cast iron painted like the manifolds or a brighter silver finish. cant find a good picture on a restored engine. thanks
It's your car. If you don't care about what the factory did, just make it look good to you. I painted the heat shield on mine with a high temp satin black...
